      Your Opportunity:

      If you are looking to expand your experience with Neurosciences, we have a great opportunity in our Neurosciences Clinical Resource Team! The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) Neurosciences Program utilizes a Clinical Resource Team (CRT). The successful RN is an experienced nurse who delivers high quality care, has acute care medical/surgical nursing and neurosciences experience and has demonstrated leadership capability. You will work with a diverse patient population over four units, including Units 4A2 (Acute Brain Injury, Neurology, Neurosurgery), 4G4 (Acute Stroke), 4G3 (Neurosurgery, Spinal Cord Injury, The Provincial Epilepsy Telemetry Treatment program) and 5A2 (Neuro-medicine, Neuroscience complex discharges). The successful [RN/LPN] is expected to work on all four units and develop expertise in acute neurosurgical procedures/after care, trauma and spinal cord injury, acute brain injury, acute stroke and post-ICU Endovascular Therapy (EVT) care, epilepsy and epileptic telemetry care, and complex discharge planning. The successful RN is part of the interdisciplinary care team and will provide evidence-based patient and family-centered care to our patient population. The UAH Neurosciences program cares for patients from Edmonton and surrounding areas, northern and central Alberta, and the Northern Territories. Our Neurosciences program is one of two in Alberta providing care to the highest acuity and most complex patients experiencing Brain and Spinal Cord injuries. Our Stroke Program is accredited as a Stroke Distinction site, following standards based on the nationally recognized Canadian Stroke Best Practice Recommendations, including stroke-specific protocols as well as client and family education. We are also the designated EVT site for Northern Alberta and provide highly specialized care to those with epilepsy and neuro-motor disorders.

      As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

      Required Qualifications:

      Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

      Additional Required Qualifications:

      The candidate must have the physical capability to perform all aspects of the role, including the ability to lift up to and including 50 lbs. Basic computer skills required. Strong leadership and critical thinking skills, demonstrated by the ability to direct other healthcare workers, problem solve and escalate clinical concerns in a timely and appropriate manner. The position requires strong communication and organizational skills and must be committed to patient and family centered care. Demonstrated ability to maintain collaborative working relationships with patients, families and team members. Successful applicants will undergo Neuroscience Orientation Classes. Upon completion of classes the candidate is required to achieve a minimum pass rate of 80% on the Neurosciences Exam in order to successfully enter the Program.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      1 to 2 years of Neuroscience experience preferred. Connect care experience preferred. 1 to 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred.
