Your Opportunity:
The Licensed Practical Nurse will report to the Unit Manager of the Stollery Day Ward. When required, the incumbent will provide clinical support to areas within Stollery Operative Services, including Pediatric Pre-admission Clinic/Same Day Admit Surgery Unit, Booking Office, Pediatric PACU and the OR, and In-Patient Surgical unit. The Licensed Practical Nurse - Pediatric Day Ward will work as part of the multidisciplinary team caring for pediatric patients and their family, in accordance with the Stollery Children’s Hospital policies and procedures. The Licensed Practical Nurse will provide pre and post-operative care and support to pediatric patients, their families, and caregivers while recognizing the values and working within a Family Centered Care philosophy. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include preparing patients for their procedure or surgery. Providing post-operative care and patient/family education to prior to discharge.
Description:
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Current Pediatric SSSU experience required or equivalent experienced will be considered. Current 1-year Stollery Surgical inpatient Unit experience required. Excellent organizational and assessment skills with the ability to work independently and communicate findings in a concise and accurate manner. Must possess strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the capability of working in a fast-paced environment with patients of varying mobility and acuity. Must also meet the following requirements: Practicing to Full Scope of Practice as per Stollery Children's Hospital policies and procedures. Successfully pass the Stollery Operative Services - Stollery Medication Administration Exam to be done at the time of the interview. Successfully passed the Stollery Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) course and the Stollery Medication Administration Exam with 90%.
Preferred Qualifications:Current Pediatric Medical experience preferred. Connect Care Op Time experience preferred, training will be provided if not proficient in OpTime.
