- Plans, organizes, and supervises departmental activities including the enforcement of criminal law, Rules and Regulations of the Board of Regents, and the conduct of staff, students, visitors, and subordinates.
- Provides guidance and direction to staff on policies, procedures, and rules and regulations. Receives and relays directives, assignments, and special orders to subordinates.
- Confers with University administrators, faculty, staff and students; and other law enforcement, court and governmental officials on matters of mutual interest.
- Makes evaluations and analyses concerning accomplishments of departmental goals and objectives. Observes and evaluates departmental operations for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Prepares and reviews various reports and makes recommendations.
- Develops and administers training programs.
- Checks performance, appearance, and conduct of subordinates.
- Facilitates coordination between departmental units and outside agencies, campus partners, and community stakeholders.
- May be required to perform direct law enforcement activities, including preventing or suppressing crime and making arrests. Performs related duties as required.
- Applicants must have accrued a minimum of 90 credit hours from an accredited institution of higher education.
- They must possess an Intermediate License from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) or be eligible to obtain the same.
- Minimum of 5 years of law enforcement experience having obtained at least the rank of Sergeant or similar role of comparable responsibility and authority.
- Demonstrated knowledge of criminal law, traffic enforcement, and applicable statutes related to policing in a university setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for report preparation and interagency coordination.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions and during nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
- Physical ability to perform duties including climbing stairs/ladders, lifting/moving objects, and wearing required uniforms.
- Must be proficient with the operation and safety procedures of all equipment utilized by the University of Texas at Austin Police Department necessary to perform assigned duties.
- Satisfactory driving history.
- Successful completion of intensive background investigation.
- Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field.
- Advanced TCOLE license.
- 10 years of law enforcement experience having obtained the rank of Lieutenant or similar role of comparable responsibility and authority.
- Experience working in a university or campus law enforcement environment.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
- Strong analytical skills for evaluating departmental performance and recommending improvements.
- Successful completion of formalized training related to law enforcement supervision.
- An ideological base in strategic thinking, promotion of innovation and drive to enhance departmental performance.
- Good stewardship and improvement oriented leadership style.
- Patrol, Investigations, Admin, Special Events and Dignitary Protection/Threat Mitigation are all areas that the ideal candidate would have experience in.
- Shift work. Nights, weekends, holidays, and some severe weather work will be required.
- May work around standard office conditions
- Personal Protection Equipment usage is mandatory in all operating spaces that include hearing and eye protection, gloves, suitable attire and breathing devices may be required under certain conditions.

Responsible for coordinating the objectives of the administration of the police department and the law enforcement efforts within the areas under the control and jurisdiction of The University of Texas at Austin Police Department. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).
