      The Lifeguard is responsible for recognizing and responding to emergency situations and providing safe enjoyment of the pool and hot tub pad for Fieldhouse patrons.

      Essential Functions

      The following duties and responsibilities are intended to be representative of the work performed by the incumbent(s) in this position and are not all-inclusive.       • Monitor patrons in the pool, hot tub, and around the deck.
      • Anticipate, recognize, and manage potential emergencies according to District policies.
      • Provide first aid, CPR, and assistance in and out of the water as necessary.
      • Assist with program needs and pool set-up.
      • Perform cleaning, maintenance, and organizational tasks.
      • Test pool, hot tub, and splash pad water periodically throughout the shift; record levels and numbers.
      • Enforce rules and regulations regarding pool and hot tub safety to minimize hazardous situations.
      • Enforce public health rules and regulations.
      • Communicate with patrons and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
      • Report any malfunction of equipment to the Recreation Lead Coordinator.
      • Complete appropriate accident/incident reports.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

      Knowledge of:

      • Lifeguarding skills and the ability to demonstrate them.
      • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.

      Skill and Ability to:

      • Work outdoors in cold or warm weather.
      • Exhibit good leadership qualities, sound judgment, and integrity; accept guidance willingly.
      • Manage difficult situations when needed, such as injury, illness, and disruption.
      • Be assertive with patrons in enforcing rules.
      • Work with the public in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
      • Perform all duties with safety as a top priority.

      Working Conditions, Physical Requirements, and Aptitudes

      • Duties may be performed outdoors, involving extreme weather conditions, prolonged sun exposure, and pool chemicals such as chlorine.
      • Manual dexterity and coordination; high degree of mental and visual alertness.
      • Ability to conduct extractions and deliver first aid/life support.
      • Work effectively with crowds and uncooperative individuals during difficult situations, emergencies, or periods of continuous demand.
      • Work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays depending on department needs.

      Minimum Qualifications

      • 15 years of age or older.
      • Current Lifeguarding certification.
      • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification within one (1) month of hire.
      • Ability to pass the Red Cross pre-screen swim test.

      The successful applicant must pass a required pre-employment background check and subsequent mandatory background checks in accordance with current District policy requirements.

      Preferred but not required:

      • Previous customer service experience.
      • Previous experience with aquatic safety, lifesaving, and first aid.
