      Overview

      This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Lifeguard maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that promotes the general safety of all swimmers.

      Shifts Available:

      Seasonal: Monday - Friday 10:00am-3:00pmMonday - Friday 11:00am-3:00pmAll year around: Monday - Friday 6:30am-10:30am / 5pm-8:30pmSat & Sunday 9:00am-1:00pm

      Responsibilities

      • Maintain constant surveillance of pool area using systematic scanning techniques while maintaining a rescue ready position.
      • Responding to emergencies and rescuing swimmers in danger of drowningPerforming first aid procedures
      • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
      • Develop and maintain a culture and emphasis on first-class customer service with the staff. Respond to user, parent, and/or customer complaints, questions, issues, or inquiries promptly.
      • Maintain developmental assets and core values emphasis in all program areas.
      • Maintain and expand training skills and credentials for the benefit of the organization as a whole, and the YMCA Movement.

      Qualifications

      • 16 years of age or older
      • Completion of lifeguard training
      • Strong attention to detail required as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
      • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
      • Ability to work with many interruptions, handling multiple tasks in a calm and responsible way, always affirming the member (e.g., scan and smile, nod, wave while answering the phone, if alone).
      • Ability to demonstrate a high level of maturity, patience, dependability, and the desire to work with all ages, especially children
      • Must be able to show initiative in the absence of supervision
      • Must be able to visually see all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility
      • Must be able to adequately hear noises and distinguish distress signals
