      Job summary

      The Cardiothoracic Unit is a hard working and cohesive group of clinical professionals providing high quality care for the people of Staffordshire and surrounding areas.

      Main duties of the job

      A unique and exciting opportunity an experienced and proactive Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist at the UHNM Heart Centre (incorporating Thoracic Surgery). UHNM Cardiothoracic Surgery serves both local and regional patients, providing the highest standards of anaesthetic care for leading edge procedures, including Complex aorto-vascular work, Mitral Clip, Minimal Invasive Cardiac Bypass Surgery and TAVI. The successful applicant will join a team of 10 Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists, working within the integrated cardiac services, which includes: Cardiothoracic Critical Care, Cardiothoracic Surgery, and a comprehensive Cardiology Department. The service is continuing to expand and the ideal candidate will be focused on providing the highest possible standard of patient care and contributing to service growth, development and innovation.

      About us

      We have three theatres providing support for two cardiac and one thoracic list each day. There are approximately 750 cardiac cases and 700 thoracic cases performed each year. To facilitate post-operative care, we have a dedicated 16 bed Cardiothoracic ITU staffed by speciality trained nursing staff and health care professionals. Currently we have 5 Cardiac surgeons and 4 Thoracic surgeons, who have support from junior and experienced doctors in training.

      The very busy Cardiology department has three intervention suites which support a wide range of activities. The Cardiothoracic Anaesthetists support a very active TAVI program as well as ASD and PFO closures, Mitral Clips and Atrial Appendage closure devices. We have a very busy EPS service with pacing and defib devices and ablation processes for AF including PVI.
