      Job summary

      We are looking to recruit a full time locum Consultant Gastroenterologist with subspeciality interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease to cover a period of absence for 6 months.The successful candidate will provide out-patient clinics and endoscopy lists independently, and may be required to supervise junior doctors in the out-patient clinicThe candidate will be fully JAG accredited in gastroscopy and colonoscopy and will be able to provide evidence of independent practice with KPIs that fulfil JAG standardsThey will be able to provide evidence of independent practice in the out-patient setting managing general gastroenterology and hepatology patients.Clinics and endoscopy lists run from 08:30-12:30 and 13:30-17:00 across all three Trust sites (Watford General, Hemel Hempstead Hospital, St Albans City Hospital)This post has 10 programmed activities.There is a 1:12 on-call rota for 'consultant of the week' inpatient cover and a 1:12 overnight on-call for GI bleed.We are looking for the prospective candidate to start on 11/08/2025

      Main duties of the job

      The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the smooth running, governance, and further development of the IBD service including:o Independent care of patients with complex IBDo Actively lead and contribute to IBD-MDTso Support and training of the IBD nurseso Foster close teamworking within the IBD teamo Support networking with internal and external providerso S Implement national policies and guidance and local GIRFT recommendations relating to IBD care upport IBD data collection/ audit and databaseo Develop departmental IBD research portfolioo Maintain appropriate CPDo Endoscopy (Elective, training, and inpatient emergency)o Outpatient work (clinics, referral vetting, GP advice and guidance)o Inpatient work (Consultant of the week to cover GI ward, Ward referrals, ED in-reach)o Weekend work (6 hours on site ward and emergency endoscopy)
