      Job summary

      Applications are invited to apply for Locum Consultant posts in Obstetrics and Ambulatory Gynaecology based at Royal Derby Hospital, with cross site cover. These are a 12 month fixed term posts.

      Three posts are available with the following sub-specialty requests:

      1. Early pregnancy and menopause
      2. Labour ward
      3. Urogynaecology

      The organisation provides comprehensive services for its local population and a range of specialist services for a wider group of patients. Within the Women's and Children's Division these specialist services include Gynaecology, Obstetrics, midwifery led care, paediatrics, neonatology, fetal/maternal medicine, fertility, GUM and HIV services. The community served by the Trust is highly diverse with a complex mix of clinical and cultural needs.

      Main duties of the job

      A final Job Plan will be agreed with the Clinical Director & reviewed after three months. The number & timing of clinics will vary depending on the special interest of the consultant.

      For a full-time contract:

      • Direct Clinical Care: 8.5 PA's on average per week
      • Supporting Professional Activities: 1.5 PA's on average per week

      All full-time appointments commence with a job plan PA allocation of 1.5 SPAs. It is anticipated the activities carried out during SPA time may change therefore the PA split will be reviewed annually in the job planning round. Within the available SPAs, it is recognised that the appointee should devote appropriate time to consolidating their sub specialty interest and developing the service. The needs of the individual will be given due consideration within the job plan to meet these aims.

      The expectations are that you will be flexible to be able to work cross all our sites should the need arise.

      The main services in obstetrics and gynaecology are delivered at Royal Derby Hospital where in-patient facilities are located. We have updated our older services and developed new services bringing the unit into the 21st century.

      The Department offers a comprehensive service which covers general obstetrics and gynaecology including sub-specialised services.

      Provision with consultant colleagues of a service to Derbyshire, Staffordshire and surrounding areas with responsibility for diagnosis & treatment of patients at the hospitals & clinics at which you have duties, this may include clinics in community facilities.

      Responsible for the continuing care & treatment of patients in your charge & personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to & training of your staff.

      Provision of an out-of-hours service with consultant colleagues including on-call rota commitments.

      Active participation in undergraduate & post graduate education, including training sessions for Foundation Years, Specialty Registrars and medical students.

      Provision of cover for your consultant colleagues during reasonable periods of leave including care of patients & supervision of doctors in training.

      Responsible for compliance with personal continuing professional development requirements with the support of the Trust. It is mandatory for all Consultants to keep up to date with evidence based practice.

      • MRCOG or appropriate specialist qualification
      • Full GMC registration with a license to practice at time of application
      • ATSM in advanced labour ward practice / ATSM or SITM in Acute Gynaecology & Early pregnancy / ATSM or SITM in Menopause care / ATSM or SITM in Urogynaecology

      Desirable

      • Additional higher medical / scientific degree relevant to the specialty
      • Emergency Gynae/Benign Gynae ATSM
      • Specialist Registration OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview or equivalent via CESR
