      Job summary

      We are looking to appoint one 0.8 WTE, Locum Consultant (Medical) Oncologist in Melanoma/Uro-oncology/Acute Oncology to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at Weston Park Cancer Centre, with outreach clinics within the SYBND cancer alliance. This is a fixed term post for 9 months.

      Main duties of the job

      The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues be responsible for the provision of cancer services across the above mentioned disease sites.The appointee will join established multidisciplinary teams for these cancers.

      Successful candidates will be expected to participate in our acute oncology and on-call services rota which currently equates to 0.11 PA.

      The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract.

      The person appointed will take their equal share in providing emergency cover and will be required to cover for colleagues during periods of absence. They will have continuing responsibility for patients in their care and the proper functioning of the Department.

      Qualifications

      Essential

      • Full Registration with the GMC with a licence to practise.
      • MRCP (or equivalent)
      • FRCR (or equivalent) - For Clinical Oncologist

      Desirable

      • MD or PhD or equivalent
      • Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview
      • If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.

      Research

      Essential

      • Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

      Desirable

      • Publications in Peer reviewed journals.

      Clinical Experience

      Essential

      • Extensive training and broad experience in Medical or Clinical Oncology.
      • Previous experience in the management of the site specific cancers applied for
      • Awareness of new developments in the specialty with the ability to assess critically the impact of these on the service
      • Ability to work as an independent practitioner.
