      Job Description

      POSITION PURPOSE

      This role accelerates business value by using logistics software to create efficient and effective routes to ensure exceptional service to our customers at the lowest possible cost. The planner coordinates all route planning for the assigned geography and takes into consideration of takes into consideration related impacts and costs. Collects, complies and analyzes data on quality of service to Reddy Ice customers. Develops and manages recommended changes based on local needs and requirements. Mentors, backfills, and covers new logistics planners. Works with RLM and national routing team to develop standards for new process and gaps in existing processes.

Actively utilizes lean tools (VSM, Kaizen, A3, etc.) to inform and assess business opportunities to drive continuous improvement. Lead and participate in Kaizen and value stream mapping activities.

      DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Provides exceptional customer service through planning optimal multi-stop routes that meet customer service expectations and are DOT compliant.
      • Drives delivery efficiencies using routing software to optimize fleet utilization and cost.
      • Responsible for daily route publication and processing and special deliveries for assigned business units.
      • Maintains daily routing processes, procedures and updates as needed.
      • Analyzes routes for efficiencies based on miles per stop, units per hour, units per mile, and overall route profitability.
      • Reviews routes and performance to maximize fleet utilization and minimize returned product; identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and makes recommendations to the Regional Logistics Manager.
      • Partners with the Regional Logistics Manager and delivery stakeholders on overall routing strategy.
      • Runs reports and utilizes technology to identify the root cause of service and routing issues and takes action to resolve.
      • Builds, maintains, and removes customer data in multiple systems across assigned business units(s). Establishes and maintains optimal routing details for each customer.
      • Complies with all corporate policies, as well as local, state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines for quality, environmental, and safety standards.
      • Mentor other logistics planners in best practices
      • Work with RLM to develop standards and best practices for new processes
      • Backfills and covers logistics planners if they are out – should have the ability to backfill any logistics planner in their region
      • Make and assume other duties and responsibilities required or assigned by management.

      EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

      • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.
      • 3+ years of experience with routing and logistics software, preferably Final Mile.
      • Must possess customer service aptitude and attitude.
      • Proven application of strong critical thinking skills and/or root cause analysis.
        • Sense of urgency – bias for action.
        • Intermediate to advanced expertise with the Microsoft Suite, including Teams.
        • Strong organization skills, time management skills, demonstrated team building and motivational competencies.
        • Demonstrated ability with improving processes, providing root cause analysis, and influencing change and people to drive continuous improvement.
        • Strong written and verbal communication skills for all levels of the organization.

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

      This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports.

      WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

      Typical office environment, generally sedentary position using computers, calculators, phones, and other office equipment. Conditions vary from normal office conditions to all areas inside and outside of our facilities. Exposure to extreme temperature fluctuations, ammonia and heavy moving equipment. Weekend and evening work may be required. Work is conducted in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. The ability to manage stress, build professional and collaborative relationships and reason through complex business situations is essential. Some travel might be required with potential for overnight stay; a valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR are required.
