- Acts as a risk and safety consultative resource for the company’s underwriters, producers, and policyholders by providing superior value-added customer service.
- Conducts on-site comprehensive risk evaluations of complex policyholder’s operations, including large risks.
- Demonstrates analytical problem-solving skills, such as the ability to use a systematic approach in solving problems by identifying the problem, developing a course of action, implementing action to affect a solution, and measuring the effectiveness of the action taken.
- Analyzes loss data and assists the client in identifying the root cause of employee injuries/loss exposures, including the development of an effective plan of action to address the loss causes.
- Operates independently, proactively, and takes initiative.
- Handles complex and unusual Loss Control situations.
- Prepares reports for underwriting purposes containing a thorough and accurate description of operations, evaluation of exposures and controls, analysis of loss data, and an evaluation of the effectiveness of client safety and training programs.
- Effectively manages and monitors an assigned book of business, directing Loss Control services and overall risk improvement.
- Accountable for providing effective and timely communications and required documentation; call and route preparation; and Loss Control evaluations as needed to underwriting and management.
- Develops recommendations to address factors that could impact the frequency/severity of losses and follows up when appropriate.
- Investigates individual large losses and conducts adverse claim trend analysis to determine if Loss Control intervention is needed.
- Develops and presents progress reports including outlining the status of Loss Control strategies/action plans for controlling losses to business partners.
- Demonstrates expert presentation skills, including the ability to prepare, organize, develop and present completed materials to an audience.
- Develops and cultivates productive relationships to obtain buy-in from the producer and the policyholder to follow recommendations within the collaborative risk improvement plan, accordingly.
- Conducts industrial hygiene assessments of potential hazards including noise, airborne contaminants, ergonomics, ventilation, lighting, and indoor air quality.
- Establishes productive and collaborative relationships and communicates with clients, producers, and internal staff.
- Participates in individual and team-based agency visits focusing on the delivery of technical capability, policyholder support and brand value.
- Demonstrates subject matter expert level of knowledge in vertical(s) or class(es) of business and/or line(s) of insurance.
- May participate in special projects related to vertical(s) or class(es) of business and/or line(s) of insurance.
- Keeps abreast of industry and technical news and developments. Shares existing and newly acquired technical knowledge with policyholders, agents, peers and business partners through training and education practices.
- Supports the continual improvement and growth of the Loss Control Department through internal training and education, practice and procedure development, and process enhancement contributions.
- Mentor and train other Loss Control Consultants as needed.
- Driving a vehicle is a requirement for this position.
- Ability to travel daily between locations with occasional overnight travel.
- Occasionally will assist other Loss Control Consultants in different territories which may require travel to other states.

- BS/BA college degree in risk management or safety and health preferred.
- Six years Loss Control experience within an insurance carrier, or three years of insurance carrier experience and at least three years of safety industry or safety-related experience is preferred.
- Previous experience, knowledge, and application of standards, rules, regulations, and building codes (e.g. OSHA, NFPA, DOT, etc.).
- Previous experience in negotiations and influencing change, as well as evaluating statistical information for support of cost effective solutions related to the development of risk and environmental safety and health programs.
- Expert skills in analyzing and evaluating client’s organizational and procedural systems and controls.
- Expert interpersonal skills to quickly develop trust, credibility, and respect from all levels of staff within the producer’s and client's organization (owner, managers, safety director, supervisors and staff members).
- Intermediate to senior level PC skills to effectively utilize the various applications within Microsoft Office Suite.
- Expert communication skills both in written and verbal form to effectively listen; turn resistance into cooperation; receive criticism in a professional manner; to properly compose business correspondence, service plans and facilitate presentations to CopperPoint’s agency partners and policyholder’s executives and managers.
- Must have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of commercial insurance.
- Spanish bilingual a plus.
- $95,000-$140,000 annually
- Compensation may vary depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.
- In addition to base salary, compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus.

- Employees will accrue 0.0846 hours of Paid Time Off (PTO) per paid hour, which may total 22 days a year. In addition, employees will also receive 10 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
CopperPoint has an exciting opportunity for a Loss Control Specialist. In this role, you will play a key part in the underwriting process by collaborating with Underwriting to support risk selection, pricing, and the retention of profitable business. You will also partner with policyholders to identify and evaluate risk factors, providing recommendations that effectively control exposures and promote safer workplaces. Driving is essential for this position, as daily travel between locations is required. The ideal candidate must be located in the Spokane, WA or Coeur d’Alene, ID area.
