- Review submitted application material against checklist of requirements.
- Report missing, incomplete, or inaccurate documentation through automated systems.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers on file status and program requirements
- Perform a thorough analysis through LMS underwriting system or client spreadsheet to ensure the quality of each loan and to determine compliance with Company and Investor guidelines.
- Calculate customer’s front and back-end debt to income ratio and verify occupancy, hardship and income.
- Submit recommendations to clients or investors for approval.
- Document final decision and update system of record.
- Deliver exceptional service to external and internal customers.
- Adhere to established timelines as defined by regulatory and client requirements for formal loss mitigation evaluations
- Perform other loss mitigation or default servicing duties as assigned.
- Provide a professional example, accuracy, and consistency in work performance.

- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two (2) to three (3) years' of underwriting background or servicing/loss mitigation experience
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to understand complex problems and to collaborate and explore alternative solutions.
- Ability to organize and prioritize own work schedule on short-term and long-term basis.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide and to record, balance, and check results for accuracy.
- Ability to clearly and accurately express or exchange ideas by verbally or in writing.
- Thorough understanding of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau rules.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest rates, principal balance and late charges.
- Knowledge of MS Word, Outlook and Excel required.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of unique situations.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and follow-up skills with the ability to prioritize.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
- Strong comfort level with technology, including ability to adapt to new systems quickly and easily. Thorough knowledge of and comfort with the Microsoft office suite applications.
- Talking - Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Hearing - Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
- Repetitive Motion - Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Vision - Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery.
- Physical Strength - Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
Description
The primary objective of this position is to perform underwriting activities for any delinquent borrower requesting mortgage assistance in accordance with federal, state, and client/investor-specific guidelines while following company’s policies and procedures under general supervision. The Loss Mitigation Underwriter will be responsible for reviewing applications for various relief programs and determining eligibility for various home retention and foreclosure alternative workouts.
