      Reports to: Head of Lower School and Director of K-12 School Counseling

      Primary Responsibilities :

      • Design and teach classroom guidance lessons with a focus on growth mindset, empathy, and servant leadership
      • Provide individual counseling as needed with students
      • Collaborate and consult with faculty to further support students’ social and emotional development
      • Design and co-facilitate parent education sessions in partnership with the Lower School Leadership Team and Counseling Department
      • Design and co-facilitate professional development for faculty toward supporting student social-emotional learning
      • Serve on the Admission Committee and various committees as needed
      • Attend Grade Level Team (GLT) meetings
      • Assist with the Student Service Council (SSC)
      • Conduct new student lunch gatherings and other small groups focused on social-emotional growth
      • Attend occasional after-school student functions and complete other duties as assigned by the Director of K-12 School Counseling or the Head of Lower School

      Position Requirements:

      • Master’s degree in School Counseling
      • Display a passion for embracing the individuality and cultural differences of each child and a commitment to counseling, teaching, and nurturing the whole child
      • Willingness to be self-reflective, learn, and grow as a professional and individual
      • A sense of joy and a positive approach to challenging situations
      • Ability to collaboratively engage with students, faculty, staff, and administration
      • Excellent written and verbal skills to facilitate effective communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
      • Maintain the highest level of professionalism and integrity
      • Familiarity with technology, including ViewSonic Board and Google Workspace
      • Commitment to developing one’s cultural self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence
      • A minimum of three years of counseling experience is preferred

      Physical demands:

      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands to finger. The employee is often required to stand, walk, and reach with their hands. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
