      The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation is responsible for British Columbia’s electricity, alternative energy, mining and petroleum resource sectors, and supporting work to meet BC’s greenhouse gas reduction targets.

      The position of Chief Engineer is central to the implementation and development of the Low Carbon Fuel Standard, one of British Columbia’s key greenhouse gas reduction strategies. The position guides the development of ministry and/or provincial policy, and standards and/or codes in a subject/program area that that is critical to the achievement of priority climate goals and objectives.

      Job Requirements:

      • Degree in a related professional field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association.
      • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists BC (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of British Columbia).

      Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas:

      • Experience in lifecycle assessment, in particular fuel lifecycle assessment.
      • Experience in science-based policy development in resource management or infrastructure development.
      • Experience managing teams and providing technical supervision.
      • Experience in greenhouse gas accounting, in particular third-party verification of emissions or fuel volumes used in reporting.
      • Experience developing programs and managing complex projects
      • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).

      About this Position:

      Remote work is allowed, this position can work up to full time from their home in British Columbia subject to an approved telework agreement.

You must be registered (or immediately eligible for registration) as a Professional Engineer with Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as currently registered as a Professional Engineer in another Canadian jurisdiction, and able to obtain registration in BC within 6 months of employment.
