Join a dynamic team of forestry management professionals in beautiful British Columbia

The Timber Pricing Forester helps administer the operational pricing of all government timber transacted within the Coast Forest Region of British Columbia. This role fundamentally relates to measuring and assessing the value of government timber via the stumpage appraisal system.

The ideal candidate enjoys analytical work and understands forest industry practices (e.g. forest planning, forest road construction, and/or harvesting). Knowledge of timber cruising, timber scaling, and waste & residue assessments is also relevant. Candidates with less experience are encouraged to apply.

The type of work required may vary depending on business needs and/or the incumbents’ strengths and interests. Job responsibilities may include: (a) reviewing appraisal data; (b) stumpage rate determinations; (c) timber pricing policy development; (d) conducting field visits; (e) conducting analysis of pricing information to identify areas of revenue risk; (f) providing recommendations as a pricing expert; and (g) training of government and non-government professionals across the Coast Region.

Through this work experience the candidate will become an expert in timber pricing systems and policies. By finding innovative solutions the candidate can become instrumental in future pricing policy which ultimately affects Crown revenue and the competitiveness of the forest sector.

This role works closely with a range of individuals including: the Coast Area Pricing Team, Timber Pricing Branch (e.g. policy makers), Interior Pricing Teams, BC Timber Sales, Industry Clients, First Nations, Forest District Staff, Compliance and Enforcement, BC Wildfire Service, and Legal Services Branch.

If you enjoy problem solving, large databases, complex problems, then this job could be the ideal next step in your career, whether you’re new to government, or already in the BC Public Service.
