- Transport all requested materials and equipment to and from assigned locations. Items to be transported might include, but are not limited to: mail, catalogs, books, newspapers, office supplies, science kits, food items, bank deposits, and computer equipment.
- Organize materials and load the vehicle at requested pick-up sites.
- If an item is at a Courier pick-up location, but not on the Courier’s daily delivery sheet, the Courier is responsible for determining whether he/she is to pick the item up that day.
- Deliver all materials and equipment to locations specified on the daily delivery sheet and deliver items picked up at outlying locations to ESC. When returning to the Intermediate Unit, unload the van, sort mail and other items, and distribute all items to the appropriate locations.
- Pick up money to be delivered to the Business Office at ESC, make bank deposits, and return bank bags to the Business Office, as required.
- Pick up mail from ESC and deliver to the post office daily or as required.
- Organize materials and load the vehicle at requested pick-up sites.
- If an item is at a Courier pick-up location, but not on the Courier’s daily delivery sheet, the Courier is responsible for determining whether he/she is to pick the item up that day.
- Deliver all materials and equipment to locations specified on the daily delivery sheet and deliver items picked up at outlying locations to ESC. When returning to the Intermediate Unit, unload the van, sort mail and other items, and distribute all items to the appropriate locations.
- Pick up money to be delivered to the Business Office at ESC, make bank deposits, and return bank bags to the Business Office, as required.
- Pick up mail from ESC and deliver to the post office daily or as required.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service. This may include, but is not limited to:
- Daily use of a cell phone and the applications on that cell phone as required.
- Use of interoffice e-mail system.
- Use of courier related and other software applications to complete tasks as, or if, required.
- Attend meetings as required.

At the present time, a Long Term Substitute vacancy for a part-time Courier exists within the Administrative Services Division of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This position is responsible for the daily distribution of materials and equipment throughout Chester County and beyond, ensuring proper care of items handled during transport. Each day the Supervisor assigns the Courier a specific route with items to be picked up and/or delivered. A Courier may be asked to cover additional stops in the absence of another Courier. This position is temporary and is anticipated to end September 30th, 2025.
