Job Title: Machine Operator

Job Description

The Machine Operator will work with HMI screens to communicate, diagnose, and run machinery efficiently. Training will be provided for lockout/tagout procedures, particularly during sterilization of machines performed weekly. The role involves communication with technicians to address machine issues such as speed, jams, or misalignments.

Responsibilities

• Operate filler machines and clear jams using emergency stop procedures as necessary.
• Assist in cleaning and sterilizing machinery weekly.
• Develop a strong understanding of machine operations and performance.
• Operate packaging equipment including check weighers, metal detectors, and x-ray machines.
• Manage manual operations in brine and blending areas, mixing ingredients as per system instructions.
• Operate case packers and palletizers in packaging areas.
• Conduct quality checks including seals, code dates, and visual inspections on packaging materials.
• Load materials for packaging such as cups, film, and boxes.
• Lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods during shifts.

Essential Skills

• 3+ years of machine operator experience in an industrial environment.
• Experience with changeovers, preventative maintenance, and HMI systems.
• 2+ years of HMI experience with the ability to monitor and respond to system alerts.
• Strong attention to detail and safety consciousness.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Packaging experience is a plus.
• Manufacturing experience is required.
• Experience in food, canning, liquid, milk, or cosmetic industries is beneficial.

Work Environment

The role is situated in a union environment. Employees work 12-hour shifts with three 10-minute breaks and a 20-minute lunch break. The filler room maintains temperatures in the 50s and 60s, being slightly warmer and wetter during summer. The upstairs area is cooler, requiring jackets with temperatures as low as 40 degrees. The packaging area is dry and temperature-controlled, while the processing area is very hot but offers cooling spots. The shift is from 4 PM to 4 AM, non-rotating, with overtime expected including weekends and off days.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Memphis, Tennessee.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.28 - $22.28/hr.
