      Company Description

      The Machinist will set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical devices. They may also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures. The Machinist builds on the Walker foundation of customer service and will have opportunities for continued growth within our machine shop.

      Job Description

      • Deliver the Ideal Customer Experience:
        • Ensure customer satisfaction. Listen to customer concerns and bring any concerns to the machine shop specialist's attention and help resolve issues.
        • Present a professional appearance wearing Walker/NAPA apparel.
        • Maintain knowledge of the customer base.
        • Be open and honest in all communications to build a positive team environment.
        • Be able to change priorities as needed to address customer needs.

      • Support Store Success:
        • Disassemble and cleans parts, before and after machining, in an agitator-type cleaning tank to remove grease, rust stains, and foreign matters.
        • May repair and resurface cylinder head to repair grinding values and seats, installing value guides, value seats, and adjust values.
        • May examine parts for cracks, using magnaflux test equipment and pressure testing.
        • May repair cracks in cylinder heads and engine blocks in some cases.
        • May operate drum lathe to resurface brake drums.
        • May operate all types of press work.
        • Operate boring machine and honing machine to internal surfaces of cylinders in the engine block.
        • Verifies dimensions, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges, to ensure tolerance specifications.
        • May repair and recondition connecting rods (Big End and Small End).
        • Management or leadership skills are preferred.

      • Continuously develop KNOW HOW:
        • Participate in NAPA and Walker sales programs
        • Stay up to date on all services, products, and parts available through Walker Auto & Truck
        • Actively participate in in-store training opportunities, including but not limited to NAPATraining.com, Paycom, PartsPRO, and outside vendors

      Qualifications

      • Education and/or Experience:
        • High School Diploma or equivalent;
        • Proven customer service experience
        • Proficient in current technology, including tablets, computers, Microsoft Office.
        • Industry experience preferred with basic knowledge of parts and auto services

      • License/Certification:
        • Valid NC Driver’s License
