JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Maintenance A (Building Security Specialist)
Organizational / Labor Relationship: Teamsters Union – Local 773
Status (FLSA): 12 month position, non-exempt
Reporting Relationships: Works under the general direction of the Director of Facilities and
Assistant Director of Facilities.
Position Summary: Provides technical implementation and repairs of major and minor campus
wide keying, door access security and CCTV systems. Provides security solutions in accordance
with existing mechanical and electronic access control systems and key coding protocols, ensuring
the continued integrity of the East Penn School District master key and door access programs.
Manual labor functions include but are not limited to repairs, service, troubleshooting and installation
on all types of doors, door hardware and storefronts. Keying of doors, building of lock cores,
installing and/or renovating doors, frames, hardware and door openings.
Qualifications:
1. Vocational schooling or advanced training from special schools and seminars preferred.
2. Basic electronic theory and low voltage comprehension
3. A documented record of satisfactory job performance
4. Education - High School Graduate or GED equivalent
Experience:
Minimum of 7 years of job experience in door hardware, door installation and electronic security
systems and programs.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
1. Ability to plan job requests, including time and materials.
2. Ability to conduct inspections to identify and correct potential problems in door hardware; door
related issues and other materials and equipment.
3. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others.
4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
5. Ability to perform mechanical skills and physical labor related to assigned duties.
6. Knowledge of local building codes and accepted practices related to job assignments.
7. Competency in the safe and efficient use of hand and power tools and equipment.
8. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and in the necessary communications skills.
9. Ability to conduct inventories of equipment and supplies and in completing requisitions, work
orders and related forms
10. Independently complete, in a satisfactory manner, a pre-employment trade assessment
conducted by EPSD or at Lehigh County Vocational Technical School
11. PC experience and knowledge of basic software applications required to complete time sheets,
operate Facilities Management System, Email, documents, AESOP.
Essential Functions / Duties / Responsibilities:
1. Applies current protection policies and protocols to the selection of appropriate electronic
and/or mechanical access control locks and devices.
2. Installs and/or oversees the installation, programming, and repair of electronic access
controls, to include proximity card and swipe card hardware systems.
3. Installs and/or oversees installation and maintenance of District Wide IP CCTV System.
4. Ability to troubleshoot and repair IP CCTV issues as they arise and work to resolve issues to
keep system viable as security needs evolve.
5. Creates and maintains keyway and pin charts and files, which form the foundation of East
Penn School District building security.
6. Advises EPSD Director of Facilities as requested regarding technical options and strategies
for maintaining and enhancing campus-wide building security.
7. As directed, performs the work such as re-keying buildings, cutting and issuing keys,
installation of hardware, and other tasks as needed.
8. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes
continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
9. Accesses, updates, and maintains Key and Electronic Access database.
10. Job may require working on other communication systems to ensure district safety.
11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Other
1. Possession of general service hand tools used to complete assigned jobs.
2. Ability to be present on the job site during adverse weather conditions.
3. Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
Physical Requirements
1. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, lift, reach, communicate (vision, hearing, and speech), carry
or convey sufficient weight to safely and effectively carry out functions, duties, and
responsibilities
2. Ability to independently ambulate in and around school buildings and office areas
3. Can independently move, transport, lift and carry manually or with mechanical assistance,
boxes, books, supplies, equipment and trash receptacles weighing up to 50 pounds
4. Can independently climb a ladder and work at a height of at least ten feet
5. Can independently reach over the head to retrieve/store items and/or crawl into confined
spaces
