Job Description

- Perform daily, weekly and monthly processes in the financial ERP system to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of project information.
- Actively participate in project cost reviews, working closely with the project managers, analyse and report any cost change to budget and the impact on profitability.
- Develop actions from project cost reviews to mitigate potential risk areas in terms of project margin accuracy, revenue recognition, on-time project delivery and related accruals and provision requirements.
- Perform month end close transactions required on the ERP system to accurately report on project revenue and margin.
- Ensure manual and system transaction accounts reconcile to applicable reports. Reports and reconciliation of accounts are to be reviewed with management.
- Close all open accounting issues prior to or on the last day of the month. Close working relationship with Operational Project Management Team required.
- Explain any variances to forecast and budget. Issue reports as required.
- Prepare routine journal entries.
- Process CRS reporting requirements.
- Prepare weekly / monthly project execution performance reviews with project managers.
- Ensure accurate weekly operational reporting, i.e. Order intake, Project Work-In-Progress, Project Work-In-Hand and Project Sales and Margin reports.
- Prepare monthly reports ASGISA, Statistics SA and other external reporting requirements.
- Participate in the preparation of the monthly forecast, strategic plan and annual budget.
- Perform capital expenditure / ROIC reviews (as necessary) for proposed capital projects and track ROIC performance of implemented capital projects
- Coordinate / address any issues in processes and systems with fellow management accountants and financial managers.
- Develop, maintain and distribute management reports as necessary to support the ongoing business and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Qualified Accountant (CA or CIMA) with a minimum of 3-5 years PQE.
- IFRS, GAAP and US GAAP up to date knowledge.
- Sarbanes Oxley compliance experience and application of key controls.
- Experience of system implementations and support within a full lifecycle ERP solution.
- Experience of working in a project costing environment. Percentage of Completion calculations, WIP reporting.
- Technically and commercially strong.
- Ability to make quick and clear decisions.
- Confident and able communicator who can influence and persuade others.
- Professional approach to reporting.
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
The Big Picture:
Howden Power, a Division of Howden Africa (Pty) Ltd is looking for an experienced Management Accountant to support the Senior Management Accountant and Financial Director in the management accounting and financial reporting for the division and ensuring the integrity of the information. Daily management of a large number of individual projects from order intake to final closure and revenue recognition and related financial transactions and play an active role in project margin reviews, analysing and explaining changes to budget and providing accurate information to be used in forecasting. Participate in the month end close, forecast and budget development and ensuring proper internal controls are in place to safeguard the Company’s assets.
