      In 2022, CAMH was announced as the lead for the coordination and administration of 9-8-8, the new national three-digit number for suicide prevention in Canada, which is expected to launch in November 2023. 9-8-8 will be Canada’s official three-digit national helpline for suicide prevention and emotional distress. This ground-breaking new service will be available 24/7/365 and accessible to everyone from coast to coast to coast. CAMH is working closely with the federal government and key partners from different groups and communities, provinces, territories and building on our work on Talk Suicide Canada, to bring this high quality, evidence-based, equitable suicide prevention service to Canada.

      Position Description
      Talk Suicide Canada/9-8-8 is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager to join our team in transforming the way people in Canada access support for suicide prevention and emotional distress. Reporting to the Director, the Manager will provide planning and oversight to ensure high quality execution of the services for the 988 network in accordance with service requirements and network agreements.

      Key Accountabilities

      • Maintain relationships with 988 network partners, including overseeing appropriate forums for communication and information exchange
      • Support planning and quality assurance for the 988 network; and participate in quality improvement process
      • Plan and wversee the delivery training for 9-8-8 Responders, including planning and implementing training for new 9-8-8 Network Partners
      • Develop and oversee policies, procedures and guideline documentation, and ongoing maintenance updates relating to the successful delivery of the 988 service
      • Develop and lead a process to address all complaints, investigations, judicial requests, etc.
      • Hire and oversee team including recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management
      • Manager will contribute to reporting on all aspects of the 9-8-8 project including, capacity, quality improvement, budget etc.
      • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as appropriate

      Qualifications
      The successful candidate will have a Master’s Degree in a related field (e.g. psychology, neuroscience, Health Sciences, Health Administration, Social Work), and one to three years of management experience (project management and/or people management) is required. At least five years progressive leadership experience in a crisis or distress centre, or experience in the field of suicide prevention or mental health and addiction are an asset. In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following skills:

      • Previous management and project management experience
      • Experience managing staff is required and management in a unionized environment is an asset
      • Experience with quality improvement initiatives
      • Proven analytical, organizational, conceptual, and decision making skills in a dynamic fast paced environment
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • Strong understanding of regulatory guidelines
      • Well-honed time management skills with the ability to efficiently multi-task and produce high-quality, accurate work while meeting deadlines, maintaining flexibility to changing priorities and remaining solution-focused
      • Demonstrated experience working on national projects is an asset
      • Highly detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and good judgment and effectively work independently while supporting a fast-paced, high-functioning work environment and monitoring personal and team-level deliverables.
      • Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language are an asset.

      Please Note: This full-time, contract (15 months) position is NOT part of any Bargaining Unit.
