- Lead SUHI’s community engagement strategy across SUHI’s strategy areas and funding portfolio.
- Work closely with SUHI leaders to lead annual planning for community engagement that supports ongoing SUHI/Sinai priorities.
- Develop yearly work plans as a part of this process.
- Supervise staff. Actively works on team building and development; manages change, growth, and conflict effectively.
- Promote a positive culture and learning mindset.
- Model SUHI’s mission, vision, and values; applies those philosophies to daily work.
- Develop and/or leads SUHI’s advisory boards/committees and other meetings and events as determined by annual community engagement plans and specific project plans.
- Lead and/or participate in the development of manuscripts, outreach materials, and communications, (social media, website, newsletter, email blasts, infographics, PowerPoint, implementation guides, reports, etc.) to showcase community engagement activities, support project activities, and/or translate data and information to varied audiences. May present project findings.
- Identify funding opportunities and contribute to grant proposals/funding requests by developing content, providing guidance on community engagement research and best practices and/or reviewing community engagement plans and approaches for adherence to best practices.
- Master degree in public health, social work, or a closely related field is required.
- 3+ years of community engagement and/or community-engaging research experience.
- Experience working with diverse partners that may have conflicting priorities.
- Demonstrated commitment to racial and health equity, working knowledge of equity issues in health, healthcare, social services, and related areas.
- Knowledge of basic epidemiologic and evaluation principles and familiarity with interpreting and disseminating public health data.
- Strong knowledge of community engagement best practices.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
The Manager of Community Engagement (MCE) is an experienced community/public health professional, able to build relationships with diverse groups and lead community engagement and partnership building efforts, both within and outside of Sinai Urban Health Institute (SUHI) and Sinai Chicago (Sinai). The position works across SUHI strategy areas to provide strategic leadership in building, maintaining, and improving multicultural relationships and partnerships with community-based agencies, grassroots organizations, schools, churches, elected officials, healthcare providers, government, public health departments and other partners. The MCE position works closely to align efforts with Sinai’s community affairs department, Sinai Community Institute, and leads and/or supports SUHI’s community/strategic advisory committees.
The role may also manage assigned projects through developing and implementing work plans to achieve overall project goals and organize activities in support of these goals.
