- Manage benefits accounting including, but not limited to reviewing and approving journals and reconciliations for pension, retirement, casualty, self-insurance, benefits, and payroll accounts.
- Responsible for managing dotted line accounting activities including, but not limited to pension and union dues, benefits, and debt.
- Responsible for severance accounting activities and related schedules.
- Responsible for equity accounting including common stock, APIC, Treasury stock, dividends, and executive compensation (stock and non-stock.)
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, analyses, memos, and regulatory and disclosure schedules.
- Manage month-end closing activities.
- Review mid-year and year-end actuarial valuation reports and supporting documentation for disability, casualty, and pension valuations, and document the review.
- Effectively support and manage senior accountants to encourage teamwork, motivate them to meet expectations to ensure work is completed timely and accurately, and promote professional growth.
- Proactively identify issues, evaluate opportunities for process improvement, improve accuracy, and make recommendations.
- Interface with Payroll and Human Resources personnel to ensure that Accounting receives complete and accurate information to record payroll and benefits-related transactions.
- Respond to audit requests and support control activity around accounting transactions and valuation.
- Perform other special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of 8 years of accounting experience, including a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
- CPA, MBA, or Masters of Accountancy required
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Professional Office Applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Proficiency with database applications a plus
- Must be detail-oriented with strong financial acumen, and able to articulate financial concepts to non-finance business partners in a clear and concise manner
- Knowledge of internal controls, financial disclosures, and reporting risks
- Experience in handling and protecting confidential data
- An individual who looks for opportunities to drive continuous improvement
- Exceptional analytical skills, problem-solving skills, organizational savvy, high energy, strong initiative, and the ability to manage multiple tasks

To connect with us, visit www.gannett.comGannett is seeking a Manager, Corporate Accounting with progressive general accounting experience, to be primarily responsible for supervising corporate accounting activities relating to payroll, employee benefits, pension plans, self-insurance programs, debt, and equity.
Responsibilities include managing the close process, reviewing account activity for errors and omissions, improving accounting processes, and working with HR staff to ensure proper documentation is obtained for reconciliation and audit activities. The Manager, Corporate Accounting will also prepare entries and reconciliations for risky or critical accounts. This position will collaborate with Human Resources, corporate functions, and auditors. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, including financial reporting, and will apply these principles in all aspects of work. We are looking for a positive communicator who is creative, solution-oriented, and very comfortable with data analysis in Excel. The Manager of Corporate Accounting should have an understanding of and experience in internal controls and accounting processes. The position requires the ability to work East Coast hours.

The annualized base salary for this role will range between $59,400 and $140,300. Base compensation is reflective of many factors, including, but not limited to, the market in which one lives/works, individual education level, skills, certifications, and experience. Note: Variable compensation is not reflected in these figures and based on the role, may be applicable
