  About the role:

  This role is a key contributor in the Corporate Finance team responsible for supporting Sun Life’s quarterly external and internal financial reporting functions.

  The incumbent will work on a growing finance & technology hybrid team, which drives a newly implemented financial reporting platform to centralize and integrate the data collection and reporting functions across Corporate Finance teams using technology-based tools (SAP, Longview, Workiva etc.) and automated workflow capabilities.

  The successful candidate will contribute and be exposed to the broad Sun Life financial close process, supporting the preparation of Sun Life’s core external reporting (consolidated external financial statements, MD&A, investor supplement) and internal reporting (CFO memo, Investor Relations material) packages.

  What will you do?

  • Support a technology-driven data collection and integration process for financial reporting, applying the principle of “collect once, use many times” to minimize duplication and satisfy a wide range of users across reporting and analysis functions within Corporate Finance
  • Liaise and build strong relationships with key stakeholders across Corporate Finance and Business Groups to understand key reporting deliverables, set expectations, negotiate “win-win” propositions, and problem-solve
  • Partner with technical, accounting and business teams on maintaining/enhancing existing deliverables and building/automating new deliverables and controls using multiple reporting tools, techniques, and sources of data
  • Be part of a project team and ensure timely delivery on project milestones within a very tight development timeline during onboarding of new reporting areas and enhancement initiatives
  • Use the developed reporting solution to execute on quarterly and annual reporting processes as assigned to ensure accurate and timely production and publishing of financial reporting documents
  • Identify and execute process improvement initiatives in collaboration with cross-team stakeholders to drive operational efficiencies, building upon a culture of continuous improvement
  • Maintain and build on Sun Life’s strong Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR) environment
  • Contribute to strategic ad-hoc projects across Corporate Finance and Business Groups as needed

  What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Accounting designation CPA, CA, CMA or CGA or equivalent
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in either public accounting or large, multinational organizations, preferably in the financial services or insurance industry
  • Experience with financial reporting & analysis, including preparation of financial disclosures for external reporting and understanding of IFRS 17/9 reporting standards
  • Demonstrated success in building and maintaining solid collaborative relationships with technical, accounting and business teams, with the ability to communicate and influence with purpose
  • Hands-on experience in designing reporting solutions and automations, ability to apply system design thinking to optimize the design, willingness to learn new tools and software used by the team

  Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Workiva and Longview is an advantage
  • Knowledge of external financial reporting
  • Strong spreadsheet skills and ability to effectively use different spreadsheet functions to filter, match and link data records
  • Ability to effectively visualize, organize, manage, and validate large volumes of data

  The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
