Love policy and politics? Keen to make a difference at an exceptional time for both LBG and the UK at large? Then we’ve news for you: an exciting opportunity has arisen to join Group Public Affairs on a fixed-term, job-share basis and lead on our policy and political engagement work focused on net zero and infrastructure. We’re looking for a high-calibre colleague who’s engaged and passionate to work with us 3 days per week for an initial 9-12 months.

The work is exciting, varied and, at times, fast paced: you’ll be supporting senior leaders and experts within the Group as we work through what a new government means for our interests, and engage with ministers and civil servants to advocate for policy change and share our insights. We’re keen to hear from anyone with knowledge of net zero and experience working in policy and/ or political engagement.

      Job Description

The GPA team seeks to be agile and a manager will be expected to fulfil a wide range of duties and tasks which include, but are not limited to the following:

      • Identify, develop and advocate for the Group’s positioning on UK policy. This will involve close collaboration with the GPA senior management team.

      • Represent the Group and its policy propositions at various external functions and meetings including with government, trade bodies and other opinion formers.

      • Write informative and concise political briefings for use by the Group Executive Committee, Board members and other senior leaders to facilitate effective political stakeholder management across the Group.

      • Carry out monitoring of appropriate political issues arising from the main UK institutions which may affect the Group and its customers.

      • Take a leading role in organising events with politicians and other corporate partners, ensuring both internal and external participants are appropriately briefed.

      • Maximise the positive impact of Group announcements with political audiences and work with the business divisions to develop ideas for activity that can be showcased to politicians.

      • Provision of a Westminster-focused political consultancy resource for internal partners, helping to ensure the Group meets the highest possible standard in its dealings with politicians.

      • Work with the relevant business teams to interrogate and respond to enquiries from Members of Parliament, ensuring they are handled with appropriate sensitivity and diligence.

      • Provide input and coordinate responses to specific consultations that may affect the Group or our customers.

What skills, capabilities and experience you will need to bring to the role?

      • Recent working experience of Westminster politics, civil service, policy think tanks or local government.

      • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of the net zero and infrastructure financing policy landscape, underpinning proven ability to write an engage persuasively and authoritatively in this area.

      • An ability to communicate confidently with high profile politicians and civil servants and, ideally, an existing political network.

      • Energy and passion to develop policy that addresses problems government is grappling with and enhances the reputation and the interests of Lloyds Banking Group.

      • Ability to deliver counsel to senior leaders, both within and beyond the Group, in a manner which is compelling and authoritative.

      • Ability to analyse and interrogate quantitative and qualitative data sets, assessing trends and insight to aid formulation of new policies.

      • Ability to think strategically and assess long-term implications of policy proposals.

      • A natural curiosity about politics, public policy and the UK’s socio-economic challenges.

      • A willingness to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment in order to meet urgent demands from both internal and external partners.

We have a flexible working arrangement whereby working from home is permitted to suit personal circumstances, but we expect colleagues to come into the office at least two times a week to enable collaboration with the team. This role often requires frequent visits to, and face to face engagement with politicians and civil servants in Westminster and Whitehall. As such, applicants in close proximity to London or who are able to travel easily, are preferable.
