      Job Description:

      Reporting to the Director Education, the Manager, Medical Education, in partnership with the Manager, Nursing and Health Professions Clinical Education, will provide leadership and mentorship, to oversee all aspects of the undergraduate and postgraduate education program(s) at Trillium Health Partners. The individual is committed to advancing our long-term academic and education strategy and goal to be a learning health system; while demonstrating passion to support and lead medical education for the next generation of health care professionals.

      Job Duties and Responsibilities:

      Works across all locations of Trillium Health Partners to support the Director of Education and fulfill a range of key responsibilities:

      • Works alongside the Director, Education and Manager, Nursing and Health Professions Clinical Education on strategic and tactical planning to advance the expansion of clinical and medical education at Trillium Health Partners;
      • Participates in the development of the education agenda for undergraduate and postgraduate students;
      • Manages and coordinates resources across all sites to implement all aspects of medical education, including two Family Medicine Teaching Units;
      • Assists in identifying consistent performance targets and metrics to be used to measure, evaluate and improve educational outcomes;
      • Assists in the planning, development and implementation of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programs;
      • Works in collaboration with the Manager, Nursing & Health Professions Clinical Education on the development of policies and procedures to guide all levels of education at Trillium Health Partners;
      • Collaborates with Manager, Nursing & Health Professions Clinical Education in the development of the annual budget for the Education Office;
      • Monitors the operational budget to ensure successful achievement of all financial goals and objectives;
      • Manages the operational budget for the Trillium-Summerville Family Medicine Teaching Unit and Credit Valley Hospital Family Medicine Teaching Unit;
      • Monitors, tracks and manages all aspects of medical education operations such as financial and data analytics, medical trainee day data, performance reporting, devices, equipment and capital planning / redevelopment related to medical education;
      • Manages risks and issues related to medical education operations identified by internal or external stakeholders;
      • Oversees the medical education student onboarding process at Trillium Health Partners, including but not limited to streamlining and standardizing registration and onboarding; developing parameters and benchmark targets; and selecting, analyzing, and monitoring performance indicators;
      • Drives the medical education simulation agenda and provides direction to staff and resources on implementation of simulation;
      • Manages Education Office operational activities, such as performance management, financial monitoring, and reporting;
      • Establishes and maintains effective partnerships with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, University of Toronto Mississauga, Toronto Metropolitan University and Faculties of Medicine at other Universities;
      • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with management, physicians, program leadership, preceptors, clinicians and staff across the organization;
      • Liaises with the Manager, Nursing & Health Professions Clinical Education to ensure continuous alignment between portfolios;
      • Assists in the promotion of interprofessional education programs;
      • Collaborates and coordinates with professional practice and interprofessional education to ensure alignment in planning for learners across the organization;
      • Supports and integrates principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in educational strategies to ensure an inclusive clinical education environment and practice;
      • Travel between all three sites of Trillium Health Partners is required;
      • Regular full time position, with flexibility to work outside of regular business hours to meet stakeholder needs as necessary.

      Job Specifications:

      Knowledge & Experience

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Administration or a health related discipline or equivalent experience working in a teaching hospital environment;
      • Previous experience in healthcare industry (5+ Years) required;
      • Minimum 5 - 7 years’ experience in a progressive formal leadership position with strong general management and a proven track record of innovation and achievements essential;
      • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and provide feedback;
      • Knowledge of adult learning theories and clinical education principles is an asset;
      • Experience working in an academic environment or an academic health center environment;
      • Experience working in a hospital or other healthcare environment;
      • Experience working in an operational setting;
      • Understanding of medical education and physician roles/responsibilities in academic environment;
      • Understanding of healthcare integration.

      • Excellent technical skills in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Visio and PowerPoint;
      • The ability to function effectively during periods of rapid change and transition, with minimal direction;
      • Demonstrated ability to enhance talent and leadership development in others and building strong, positive team relationships;
      • Excellent project management skills;
      • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with staff, senior management, internal and external stakeholders;
      • Ability to link operational practices to business strategies.
