      Salary Range: M4, Level 7, $134,832- $168,540 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.

      Manager, Regulatory Design and Delivery – Hybrid

      The Opportunity

      The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking a Manager, Regulatory Design and Delivery, within our Regulatory Enhancement Branch. In this key position, you will lead a team of regulatory design specialists who facilitate and guide the design of regulatory interventions. You will be responsible for ensuring high quality standards for regulatory development are maintained by supporting the team’s use of the AER’s regulatory development process including fit-for-purpose and defensible decision analyses.

      As the Manager, Regulatory Design and Delivery, you will ensure that the regulatory development process is well understood and is adaptable to the scope and scale of regulatory initiatives led by the branch. With your broad knowledge of the full spectrum of the AER’s regulatory system related to the AER’s mandate, you will contribute to the development of the multi-year roadmap, which sets internal priorities for regulatory development at the AER.

      This is a dynamic team, with projects that may last 3 months or 3 years. Teams work to help solve complex problems working with senior advisors, leaders, and subject matter experts across the AER. If you enjoy managing in a space where every day is different, this job is for you!

      What your day-to-day will look like:

      • Lead a team of direct reports by providing clear direction so the team works as a cohesive unit. Develop team members through coaching, training, objective setting, providing ongoing feedback, and recognition.

      • Guide staff in applying regulatory development process best practices, ensuring alignment with standard operating procedures of the AER, and to support successful implementation of the full breadth of regulatory change and strategic initiatives in response to government policy direction and AER executive direction.

      • Accountable for maintaining and evolving the AER’s regulatory development processes, guidance, and standards to ensure procedures reflect best practices in regulatory development while maintaining flexibility in application to meet the scope and scale of the regulatory problem.

      • Communicate with and persuade others on regulatory change matters, processes, and approaches to support the successful execution and completion of projects and initiatives. Requires ability to communicate with executive leadership, facilitating awareness, and managing change.

      • Able to effectively advance multiple initiatives concurrently; ability to respond to changing priorities and timelines, as well as handle multiple tasks; ability to build and maintain momentum with a focus on proactively addressing possible problems.

      What we’re looking for in you:

      • University Master’s degree in economics, law, environmental science, or a related education.

      • 10+ years of regulatory or policy development experience, including 3-5 years of demonstrated skills leading and supervising a team of direct reports.

      • PROSCI certification is considered an asset.

      • Strong strategic thinking, organizational and time management skills to effectively balance multiple demands and priorities.

      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills combined with a desire to promote honest and transparent communication.
