      Job Summary

      Will be responsible for the design development of various mechanical and drilling systems for the working fleet, new build, conversion, refurbishment, and upgrades of offshore drilling units. This responsibility includes the review and approval of designs for onboard mechanical installations, development of layouts, development of scopes of work, procurement specifications, technical support and resolution of engineering issues. The position will also require support in resolution of technical issues raised by the operating rigs from the Field Support Groups, which are related to mechanical equipment and systems. Ensure engineering related work conducted by project and/or departmental engineers complies with Transocean and industry standards. Develops and provides technical options to optimize operations of the vessels within the fleet.

      Key Roles & Responsibilities

      • Support and assist rigs operations staff, or shipyard teams, with their technical queries and coordinate resolution as required. Also support trouble shooting and downtime events and incidents ensuring company standards for safe work practices is maintained.
      • Complete site survey’s to rigs offshore and to fabrication sites to define the scope of work required for vessel modifications, repairs and conversions, as well as meetings with customers as required.
      • Coordinates and manages the work of 3rd party engineers, drafters and technicians to ensure the quality of the design criteria is met.
      • Sponsor and validate engineering work on major projects. This includes organize technical discussions with subcontractors and vendors in order to specify designs or systems necessary for an engineering project. Participating in feasibility and in design reviews to ensure work complies with Company standards and policies, especially when departures from proven technology are involved. Ensure that internal and external engineering support for major projects is properly executed, commissioned, reviewed, and approved/validated. Promote proper discipline representation on project mechanical engineering teams.
      • Review and approve engineering drawings and calculations in compliance with Classification and Regulatory Rules and ensure adequate standards of safety are incorporated.
      • Promote technical development within Company: By participating in regularly scheduled technical meeting with key vendors and class societies. Improve rig operating efficiency and safety Review and develop technical bulletins as required to optimize or resolve mechanical system issues for offshore installations.
      • Coordinate regulatory and classification body review and approvals. Including the review of compliance of fleet vessels per class (ABS/DNV) and other types of regulations as well as engineering best practices (ASME). Based on latest publications.
      • Create, review and approve weld and heat treatment procedures. Help with selection of materials for different applications. (metallurgy).

      Education:

      • Major in Naval Architecture or marine constructions/engineering or civil engineering

      Experience:

      • 10 years' experience as a structural engineer / Naval Architecture, with an industry related to offshore drilling, offshore oil and gas vessels or shipyard providing structural engineering solutions.
      • 3 years minimum as structural engineering manager or lead engineer with an industry related to offshore drilling, offshore oil and gas vessels or shipyard providing structural engineering solutions.

      Skills:

      • FEM analysis tool as ANSYS, hand calculations, experience with StaadPro. In-depth structural understanding. In-depth knowledge of technical drafting. MathCAD , Autocad , Navis works, Stipla . Knowledge with DNVGL , ABS ,IMO , NMA and PSA regulations. As well as knowledge with metallurgy and fabrication concepts . As well as knowledge with relevant industry standards. Preferred: Certified engineer / Professional engineer recognized by a standard organization.

      Additional Requirements:

      • Requires Offshore travel.
      • Experience with offshore drilling units and/or experience in shipyards preferred.

      Pre-Requisite/ Qualification

      • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screen.
      • Must successfully complete pre-employment background check.
