      Description:

      Spaces & Experiences operates undergraduate and graduate student housing on the St. George campus. These include Graduate House, Chestnut Residence, and Knox Residence with two new residences currently in development: Oak House and Harbord Residence. The S&E Residence team endeavors to provide a residence experience that fosters community engagement, celebrates diversity, and keeps equity and inclusion at the forefront of our decision making and approach. With this in mind, our goal is to offer students the opportunity to live in an environment that provides programming, services, and interactions that positively contribute to their personal growth and student success during their time at the University of Toronto.

      Summer accommodations is a key aspect of the residence operations that generates revenues for the ancillary operation through the provision of summer housing to various market groups, including language schools, groups, and short-term guests such as tourists. As part of this aspect of our operations, we strive to provide an accommodations environment that offers a high value experience and one that contributes to an overall positive experience for our community.

      Working under the direction of the Dean of Residence and Director of Student Life, the Manager, Summer Accommodations provides primary leadership and is responsible for managing the operations and staff of the summer accommodations team. Responsibilities of this position include: setting strategic direction for summer operations, continuous program development and improvement; establishing a budget that encompasses summer business revenues from key market segments and expenses related to staffing, facilities, and other aspects of summer operations; overseeing and supporting a team that manages the summer accommodations; coordinating the stakeholder group at Chestnut in delivering a high quality summer accommodations experience; interacting with guests and responding to escalated guest complaints and issues; and developing contracts for groups and other short-term stays.

      Qualifications:

      EDUCATION:

      • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, business administration, or other relevant discipline. Graduate degree (i.e., MBA) considered an asset.

      EXPERIENCE:

      • Seven (7) or more years of related experience in the hotel/short-term accommodations industry.
      • Exposure to similar university conference centres and/or hospitality contexts.
      • Experience in developing and managing budgets.
      • Experience in guest relations and addressing escalated complaints and issues promptly and effectively.
      • Proven ability to coordinate with stakeholders to ensure a seamless and high-quality summer accommodations experience.
      • Experience with hotel management software and channel managers.

      SKILLS:

      • Strong organizational skills with the ability to set strategic direction and manage day-to-day operations efficiently.
      • Ability to develop and implement strategic business plans.
      • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
      • Proficient in gathering and analyzing data, utilizing insights to generate reports that inform decision-making and enhance operational efficiency.
      • Ability to analyze program effectiveness and implement improvements to enhance the overall summer accommodations experience.
      • Excellent interpersonal skills with the capacity to build strong relationships with internal and external partners.
      • Strong customer service orientation and conflict resolution skills, with a focus on creating a positive and inclusive environment for all guests.
      • Proficiency in drafting contracts for groups and managing agreements for short-term stays.
      • Proactive approach to identifying opportunities for innovation and adapting to changing market demands.
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
      • Ability to work under pressure while balancing conflicting priorities and deadlines.
      • Ability to implement and maintain robust financial controls.

      The Manager Summer Accomodations supports guests staying at the residence in a 24/7 environment. The successful incumbent, will need to be avaliable for on-call during evenings and weekends during the summer months (beginning of May through end of August).
