The Senior Manager, Network Planning works closely with Network Engineering, Product Management, Sales and Business Development to drive requirements gathering, analysis, design, feasibility studies and financial analysis supporting business decisions for network planning and financial investments.

You will support and advise the Director, Engineering and IT in developing, analyzing, recommending and implementing alternative business models and strategic options for network investments to support the growth of Acronym Solutions.

      You will be part of the Acronym Solutions management team playing a key role in business planning and casing. You will have a team of Fibre Planners, Outside Plant Specialists and Network Engineers and will be accountable to manage cross-functional staff and contractors.       General Accountabilities:

      • Responsible for developing and managing the Network Planning strategy, planning, design and execution

      • Develop, document and implement Network Planning standards and guidelines utilizing industry best practices

      • Lead and be the catalyst for translating business requirements and customer requirements into network plans, network augmentation, network expansion and all aspects of network design

      • Create and obtain approval on business plans and business cases to support the execution of network development and expansion

      • Manage the team accountable for Network Planning including Fibre Planners, Outside Plant Specialists and Network Planners

      • Create and maintain performance metrics (KPIs) used to measure and improve network performance, network utilization and return on investment

      • Provide Sales Support for Network design and costing for customer opportunities

      • Accountable for all aspects of network planning for fibre planning, traffic steering and planning, capacity monitoring, design and management

      • Develop and manage the Acronym Solutions five year Network Planning roadmap including Fibre, Optical, MPLS and Data networks

      • Engage and collaborate with customers, potential customers and resources within Acronym Solutions to understand business needs and requirements to drive network planning

      • Lead technology vendor evaluations, technology selections, negotiations and contract development

      • Support the development and implementation of the long term business strategy for Acronym Solutions. Ensure that the Plan stays current, and monitor progress against the Plan

      • Support the development of the annual business plan, which maintains and expands the sustainability and profitability of the business.

      • Create network development plans which integrate new systems and applications with existing systems and applications, manage their implementation utilizing current project and program management methodologies

      • Act with entrepreneurial spirit, taking creative approaches to accomplishing goals and demonstrate achievement orientation

      • Pursue and cultivate effective working relationships, work in partnership to achieve goals

      • Negotiate and manage project deliverables, schedules, timelines and costs from concept to deployment and business readiness. Communicate to all stakeholders on project progress against designed plan, requirements, quality measures, compliance with processes, highlight risks and issues, drive resolution and escalate when required

      • Demonstrate the necessary skills to negotiate issues with peers, partners and customers using a Win/Win philosophy

      • Accountable for setting team goals, objectives, coaching, and handling human resource issues and resolving work performance problems

      • Develop employee skills and competencies through training, coaching, peer learning and special project assignments to achieve department and corporate objectives

      • Maintain and enhance effective working relationships with appropriate level of employees’ collective bargaining organization representatives

      Selection Criteria:

      • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Science or equivalent work experience. M.B.A. would be a definite asset

      • 15+ years of successful network planning both as a manager and an individual contributor

      • 15+ years experience with network planning in data and optical networking for the Telecommunications, Service Provider and ICT industries

      • Technical knowledge of Layers 1-3 of the OSI stack including network planning for all three layers: fibre planning, traffic steering and planning, capacity monitoring, design and management

      • Experience translating business requirements and customer requirements into network plans, network augmentation, network expansion and all aspects of network design

      • Experienced in network planning assessments, design, feasibility studies and financial planning to support network plans

      • Solid experience creating project plans, implementation plans, presentations and business requirement specifications

      • Demonstrated success with building and managing relationships with C-level management teams

      • Demonstrated experience managing Fibre Planners, Outside Plant Specialists and Network Planners

      • Demonstrated experience managing teams with diverse accountabilities driving towards common goals

      • Effective leadership skills to navigate through various Lines of Business to garner resources and motivate to accomplish tasks

      • Demonstrated experience initiating and managing relationships with vendors, partners and customers

      • Strategic and tactical mindset with the ability to translate strategic vision into actionable outcomes

      • Experience in preparing and managing budgets associated with technology and service planning for fibre, data and optical networks

      • Proven track record of spearheading projects through the full life cycle from idea and initiation, to planning, to execution, to project completion and closure

      • Proven and quantifiable track record of over achievement

      • Ability to work in a fast paced environment

      • Motivated, self-starter, goal oriented and takes ownership.

      • Exceptional negotiation, problem solving and analytical skills

      • Ability to create financial models focusing on profitability and ROI

      • Exceptional communication skills – written & verbal, and strong presentation skills
