- Working with the Executive Director, lead a data-driven strategy to foster a positive staff culture, including professional development and staff engagement initiatives.
- Partner with hiring managers to develop, coordinate, and lead talent sourcing, recruitment and hiring strategy for all open positions. Support the hiring process by conducting resume reviews, developing interview processes, ensuring best practices are followed to mitigate bias, and supporting positive candidate experiences.
- Plan and execute new staff onboarding to ensure all new staff have the necessary materials, information, and support to start strong (Duties may include reviewing I-9 documents, distributing office equipment, training new employees on office protocols and policies, assisting in orientation/onboarding of new hires, maintaining records, ensuring compliance with mandatory trainings, etc.)
- Develop and co-lead Senior Leadership and whole team retreats and meetings with the Executive Director.
- Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines. Act as the primary point of contact for COVID-19 tracking, tracing, and compliance at the site level.
- Design and lead staff culture-building initiatives and events, including celebrations and appreciations.
- Serve as liaison with City Year Headquarters as a part of the People Points community, helping to weigh-in on, develop and communicate organization-wide policies and practices.
- Work with People Business Partner to support staff and AmeriCorps members with understanding and navigating City Year benefits and HR policies and resources; serve as a point person for HR-related policies and questions as needed.
- Lead and support Community Partnerships Manager with developing and executing local recruitment strategy.
- Lead office management protocols, documentation, and communication related to, but not limited to, office space, office equipment, common area maintenance, staff contact information and records, email distribution lists, and emergency preparedness.
- Maintain and improve operational processes and procedures to ensure the site runs smoothly and efficiently keeping up with the site’s evolution, including ensuring staff and corps comply with site and headquarters processes and procedures.
- Maintain positive relationships with building management and vendors and proactively address issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain and update site digital workspace and communications, including SharePoint and Microsoft Teams environments, as well as support user-experience in other systems, including Workday and the Microsoft Suite.
- Manage office camp-firing policies (community upkeep and maintenance) and communal office space to ensure consistent organization and cleanliness.
- Ensure successful implementation of Corps Experience elements including uniform management, bus passes, pantry, relocation payments, and temporary housing efforts.
- Target and assess IT issues and needs at the site-level and track site assets.
- Lead special projects and change management initiatives including system and equipment upgrades.
- In partnership with the Executive Director, monitor and provide monthly reporting on current expenses and spending forecasts.
- Monitor departmental expenses and recommend strategies to ensure that City Year Sacramento meets quarterly expense targets.
- Manage purchasing and invoice processes, including expense reports, purchasing cards, petty cash, and travel budgets.
- Lead annual budget design process for site.
- Create and manage resources and tools for staff to track expenses and assets and support efficient use of funds.
- Serve as liaison with City Year Headquarters as a part of the Finance Points community, ensuring local procedures align with national directions.
- Lead the execution of City Year Sacramento’s strategic plan as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Support Executive Director in organizing and communicating with the CYSAC Advisory Board, including board meetings and retreats.
- Work in collaboration with all site departments to ensure effective and smooth execution of site wide events (Opening Day, Graduation, etc.)
- Leads collective site efforts and accountability measures for site-wide initiatives such as Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity work and Site Advancement Planning.

The Managing Director, People Operations will serve as the main driver of site culture. The Managing Director will collaborate with other leaders to center our people and organizational values when leading the day-to-day operations of our site. This is a dual role with a focus on people (culture, HR practices, hiring, development) and operations (budgeting, expense tracking, office management, technology) and requires the ability to juggle and balance strategic and tactical work on a regular basis.Job Description
The Managing Director, People and Operations (MDPOps) will serve as CYSAC’s main owner of site culture and operational practices to drive outcomes and people satisfaction. This site leader works closely with the Executive Director helping to execute the strategic plan of CYSAC and is a member of the site’s Senior Leadership Team. The MDPOps will work collaboratively with other department heads to ensure the site is engaging in ways that align to organizational values and aspirations. The MDPOps will lead the day-to-day operations of the site and plays a critical role in ensuring staff and corps have the necessary tools and resources to drive student impact. This is the perfect position for a culture-loving, people-centered, strategy-minded, highly collaborative individual who is excited about building anti-racist, equitable operational & strategic policies and processes at a mission-driven organization that’s partnering with AmeriCorps members, students, and schools to improve educational outcomes for youth in Sacramento.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the MDPOps will be responsible for developing and implementing a long-term people and culture plan; leading the execution of the annual strategic planning process; evolving the operations work; and overseeing all office-related workstreams such as: technology, finance and expense tracking (including processing of accounts payable and receivable), vendor relations, and facilities. The MDPOps will also play a key role in site culture and staff experience through hiring, onboarding, and culture-building initiatives. This role has one direct report, the Community Partnerships Manager, who they will support with building out and executing a local recruitment strategy in partnership with Headquarters. The MDPOps will also lead on one to two special initiatives annually as assigned by the Executive Director.
