Job Description

- Manage editorial responsibilities for the ASCO Educational Book including overseeing the author invitation, manuscript peer review, and Conflict of Interest (COI) collection processes; collaborating with multiple stakeholder groups across ASCO for content development and promotion via email newsletters, social media, and podcasts.
- Collaborate with the Publishing Production team on timelines and workflows, ensuring content is published and distributed by mutually agreed upon deadlines.
- Manage content development and editing for print meeting programs and coordinate with Publications Production on schedule development and adherence, proof reviews, template updates, vendor management, and ad placement.
- Manage editorial responsibilities as assigned for the ASCO Daily News program, including content selection and development; assigning articles to freelance or staff writers; editorial review of articles; and print proof management.
- Provide editorial support for ASCO Connection , ASCO’s member magazine, including partnering with internal stakeholders on topic-specific content development related to ASCO organizational priorities; editorial review of print and online articles and print proofs; and support the production of print issues.
- Support editorial activities for the ASCO meeting proceedings, including management of post-publication errata.
- Initiate and execute process improvement, obstacle anticipation and avoidance, and innovative advancements and improvements to products.
- Collaborate with colleagues on publication strategy and budget management.
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Digital Media Studies, Communications, English, Literature or related fields from an accredited college or university
- 6+ years of relevant experience in writing, editing, and/or publishing activities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; openness to embracing new technology
- Master's degree in Journalism, Digital Media Studies, Communications, English, Literature or related fields from an accredited college or university
- Proficient in use of manuscript submission systems
- Experience handling publishing ethics issues and conflicts of interest
- Basic knowledge of metric-driven programs
- Experience in managing writers, editors, or producers in publishing
- Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to provide a high level of efficient support to authors, editors, and reviewers
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and on tight deadlines
- Self-motivation and a willingness to take new initiatives
- Strong project management skills
- Effective leadership skills with the ability to delegate and motivate employees and volunteers
- Strong desire to seek continuous improvements by staying knowledgeable on the current industry trends
