Employer is seeking a highly motivated and organized candidate to join their team as a Managing Editorial Assistant/Assistant Managing Editor. This role offers the opportunity to learn about the overall managing editorial process and gain insight into the inner workings of a publishing office. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have strong analytical skills, and be able to effectively manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. This is a great opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about publishing and interested in bringing commercial fiction and nonfiction to a wide readership.
Responsibilities:
Managing Editorial Assistant:
- Provide administrative and managing editorial support for the creation of the Riverhead and Portfolio list, or the Dutton/Plume/Tiny Reparations list
- Track schedules for manuscripts, cover design, and marketing materials to ensure timely completion of each book
- Act as a point of contact with various departments across the organization, including editorial, production, design, and marketing
- Assist in tracking Netgalley epub schedules
- Update data in SAP and the FileMaker Pro database as needed
Assistant Managing Editor:
- Manage metadata, title schedule management, and/or reprint corrections in trade or academic publishing
- Review titles up for reprint and compile lists of cover and text corrections needed
- Watermark files for editorial, marketing, publicity, and others as requested
- Assist in tracking Netgalley epub schedules
- Provide general administrative support to the Managing Editorial department and assist with special projects as needed
Essentials:
- Exceptional attention to detail and proofreading skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, meet deadlines, and problem-solve creatively
- Superb organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style
- Familiarity with FileMaker Pro, InMotion, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and/or SAP a plus
Additional Information:
- The salary for the Managing Editorial Assistant is $48,000 and for the Assistant Managing Editor is $53,000
