- Act as a key driver of change within the plant, supporting management/cross functional decisions by communicating the plant-wide changes to employees and helping them to learn, understand, adjust and grow with the business's Lean transformation.
- Support plant operations management in the development, planning and implementation of a Lean/5S strategy and metrics providing support to process owners to clearly link project metrics to strategic operational objectives.
- Plan and facilitate Kaizen activities on the shop floor as needed to implement value stream improvement plans.
- Increase standardization of work processes. Perform time studies to ensure standards are up to date.
- Lead value stream mapping exercises to determine and address business improvement areas.
- Maintain the shop floor layouts. This will require partnering with EHS to ensure safety-related items are kept up to date.
- Recommend and implement changes in operations or machining methods used for production, including optimizing workflow and cell designs.
- Provide new line installation support and development of standardized work, lot size development, packaging support, PR system design, material conveyance, as a basis for progressive kaizen
- Collaborate with other engineering staff and operators to improve tooling or fixtures necessary for improving processes
- Creates and manages Bills of Materials and process routings in support of manufacturing operations and quotations.
- Troubleshoots causes of rejected parts and problems in manufacturing using knowledge of GD&T and use of precision measuring instruments.
- Participates in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with internal teams. Reviews drawings, 3D models, and specifications to facilitate manufacturability.
- Creates, requests, and/or updates various documentation including customer-specific requirements, non-disclosure agreements, routings, and Bill of Materials.
- Assists in designing and managing the fabrication or acquisition of fixtures used in various processes. Ensures the successful implementation of fixtures on the production floor.
- Participates in and occasionally leads problem solving teams utilizing lean manufacturing methods.
- Assists in creating programs (such as Laser Marking programs),3D models, associates fixtures, drawings, templates, overlays, etc.
- Receives training and development in various phases of engineering work.
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following company standards and procedures.
- Collaborates with Operations Analysts to ensure data is available, monitored, and reported with a consistent approach. Supports implementation of any management system at the site level.
- Participates in ensuring processes are in place to deliver site annual and strategic objectives, including but not limited to OEE and VAPD performance, productivity, capacity planning, and capital investment.
- Supports implementation a robust management operating system which quickly highlights necessary adjustment to the cross-functional team, providing confidence that site strategic and operational goals will be successfully implemented.
- Collaborates with Operations Analysts to ensure data is available, monitored, and reported with a consistent approach. Supports implementation of any management system at the site level.
- Participates in the required training that is delivered to the site team in support of site goals, objectives, and program management milestones.
- Supports definition of One Orchid processes as defined by the Director, Operations Excellence Transformation. Implements best practices as these practices are defined.
- Works with Lead Change Agent - Manager, Operations Excellence Transformation, Orchid to ensure goals and objectives of the site transformation program are simply communicated at their site.
- Provides support to team members to ensure that they have the required knowledge and skills prior to performing job duties.
- Mentors shop employees on improvements to manufacturing methods, products and new production equipment.
- Assists in creating programs (such as Laser Marking programs, CNC programs),3D models, associates fixtures, drawings, templates, etc.
- Assists in creating Standard Work Instructions for various operations and occasionally collaborates with Quality Control Inspectors.
- Interacts and communicates with customers to inform them of critical details on new product launches.
- Advocates for the health and safety of self, co-workers, customers, and the community.
- Support quality and compliance by adhering to all procedures, work instructions, and forms per the Quality Management Systems (QMS).

- Bachelor (Preferred)
- No previous work experience required
- 2+ Years of experience in Engineering (Preferred)
- Experience in a FDA Regulated Environment (Preferred)
- Lean Manufacturing Experience (Required)

The Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for Lean efforts throughout the Orchid Bridgeport facility to achieve high levels of performance. Goals include reducing manufacturing lead-times, improving inventory turns, improving 5S, reducing setup times, improving on-time delivery, and improving productivity.
