      About the Role

      Manuscript Editors support the journal editors and Editorial Board Members in providing rapid peer review and publication. This includes assessment of manuscripts for adherence to editorial policies, finding and inviting appropriate peer reviewers, and making decisions on manuscripts in collaboration with the journal editors. Excellent time management and broad scientific competence is a key part of this role.

      Role Responsibilities:

      • Assess manuscripts for compliance with our editorial policies and suitability for peer review.
      • Identify and invite appropriate peer reviewers and manage the peer review process in a timely manner.
      • Recommend editorial decisions to the specific journal editors.
      • Liaise with editorial board members to progress manuscripts to a final decision.
      • Manuscript consultation (for example, support EBMs with reviewer finding).
      • Identify manuscripts where there are difficulties in reaching an editorial decision and escalate to the specific journal in-house editors.

      Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

      • Educated to PhD level (or equivalent)

      • Excellent communication skills

      • Excellent organizational ability and time-management skills

      • Analytical/critical appraisal skills

      • Self-starter with a positive, can-do approach to problem-solving

      • Ability to complete allocated tasks and work to (often competing) deadlines

      • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels and as part of a team
