Marine Science Summer Camp Coordinator – 2024 Reports To: CTE Director Bargaining Unit: SKEA Employment Type: Certificated Salary: Per Deim FLSA Status: Exempt Adoption Date: May 2023 Belonging is a core value in the South Kitsap School District. Please email hoettel@skschools.org to request the voluntary transfer form. The Marine Science Summer Camp is July 15-19, 2024. The Coordinator will lead training the week of July 10-12, 2024 and be on site during Marine Science Camp. The Marine Science Summer Camp Coordinator position will involve collaborating with the CTE Director to organize and execute the Marine Science Summer Camp. The Marine Science Summer Camp is scheduled to run from July 15, 2024, through July 19, 2024. Instruction will take place at Cedar Heights, John Sedgwick, and Marcus Whitman middle schools for one week, Monday through Friday. The Marine Science Summer Camp Coordinator position will oversee all the Marine Science Summer Camp Instructors and Paraeducators. The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the Marine Science curriculum is implemented with fidelity, communicate with summer camp families, track student attendance, coordinate with food and nutritional services for meals and snack, assist with student discipline when necessary, lead the summer staff professional development and training (July 10-12), be on-site the week of the camp to support staff and students, and attend the field trip. The Coordinator will work 72 hours to meet the needs of this program and will be compensated at their per diem rate of pay, to be distributed on the August payroll. The tentative required commitment of hours is outlined as follows: The Coordinator will meet with the Marine Science Summer Pre-Planning Coordinator for 2 hours during the week of June 10. The Coordinator will spend a full day on work preparation and planning on July 8 and 9. The Coordinator will lead and participate in teacher professional development /training, created by the curriculum design team, on July 10, 11, & 12. The Coordinator will circulate through all three middle schools during the Marine Science Camp and be present during teacher work hours (5 hours of teaching, 30 minutes of morning prep, and 1 hour of afternoon prep work). The Coordinator will conclude the camp by ensuring that all remaining materials are collected and that all documentation for teacher payment has been submitted. Professional Qualifications: Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate; Science or CTE STEM Endorsement middle or high school level preferred Principal or Program Administrator certificate preferred Academic background in coordination of staff and student training, staff supervision, staff development, and curriculum instruction. Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation and be willing to actively participate in a team environment; Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the middle school level; and a willingness and ability to utilize a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies, including an emphasis on reading skills; Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden knowledge in curriculum methods; Demonstrated knowledge of new technologies and an ability to incorporate these into instructional programs; Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and district goals; Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, self, and others. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Confer and plan with CTE Director, SKSD Summer School Director, Food and Nutrition Services, building Nurses, and support staff to discuss program goals and course objectives; Oversee and communicate with Marine Science Summer Camp Teachers and support staff; Communicate and promote summer program with families, students, SKSD staff, and community members; Communicates regularly with CTE Director regarding program updates; Has the ability to see things from a fresh and innovative perspective; Values and celebrates diversity; Values student achievement; Communicates and manages the communication with families about camp; Ensures the delivery of curriculum and supplies; Ensure logistics of facility use, meals, and transportation are in place; Leads staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement designed instruction to achieve learning goals; Participates and facilitates in meetings as needed; Works cooperatively with staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.
