      Job Overview

      Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We have an opportunity for a Marketing and Communications Specialist for our Pasadena facility. Are you fully bilingual (English/Spanish), do you have professional marketing, communications and public relations experience as well as a Bachelor's Degree, and would you like to use your creative ability to help support Shriners Children's mission to provide the best quality care to our pediatric patients and their families?       The Marketing and Communications Specialist requires a flair for feature writing, succinct business writing ability, and exceptional proofreading skills. High-level knowledge of existing and emerging social media platforms and the ability to meet deadlines while working independently to manage multiple projects is also essential. Familiarity with content management systems, as well as basic design and video editing experience is preferred. The Marketing and Communications Specialist works closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, and maintains a productive working relationship with the business development and donor development teams. Occasional evening and weekend work required. Must quickly integrate into organizational culture, serve on various committees and demonstrate commitment to the Shriners Children's vision of transforming children’s lives through exceptional healthcare.

      This position is full-time, non-exempt and benefits eligible. The pay range for this position is $19.19/hour - $28.78/hour. Compensation is determined based on relevant experience and department equity.

      Responsibilities

      Responsibilities for this position include strategic communications related to posting content and researching/writing patient stories; collaborative communications working with other departments and medical staff as well as assisting with Shriners International temple relations; and departmental support such as project management, researching and maintaining contact list for media outlets; and general office duties such as answering phones, filing, inventory of marketing collateral, and meeting minutes.

      Qualifications

      The ideal candidate will possess 1 or more years of marketing, communications and public/media relations experience, including writing and editing; light experience with photography (or interest in learning); social media content creation experience; and proficiency in MS Office. Being fully bilingual in English/Spanish, both written and verbal, is critical for this role. Graphic design experience with Adobe Creative Suite is highly preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Communications, Public Relations or Journalism required. Key competencies for this role include exposure to media monitoring platforms such as Hootsuite; accuracy in spelling, grammar and punctuation; and the ability manage multiple projects. The successful person on this role will be collaborative; possess strong organizational and prioritization skills; use sound judgment in decision making; focus on meeting deadlines (or communicating legitimate reasons well in advance as to why deadlines cannot be met and providing potential solutions); and understanding the importance of being punctual, communicating flexibility in changing priorities/project work focus, and a strong sense of teamwork.
