      INTRODUCTION
      The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) provides death, disability, and pension retirement benefits to employees of local governments and school districts in Illinois (with the exception of the City of Chicago and Cook County). We are the second largest—and best funded—statewide public pension system in Illinois, IMRF serves approximately 3,000 municipal employers in the State.       SUMMARY
      This position partners with IMRF’s Communication Officer to plan, deliver, and continuously improve the organization’s mass communication. Areas of responsibility include external communication to members and employers and internal communication for IMRF staff.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Supervise staff of four (External Communications Specialist, Internal Communications Specialist, Digital Communications Specialist, and Graphic Designer).
      • Responsible for hiring, performance management, planning, training, development, and coaching.
      • Ensure all mass communication is written in Plain Language and adheres to the requirements of IMRF’s Style Guide.
      • Ensure all mass communication is professionally designed and adheres to the requirements of IMRF’s Brand Standards Guide.
      • Supervise the administration of the following mass communication channels:
        • Public website
        • Employee intranet
        • Social media including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Vimeo
        • Print newsletter for members
        • E-newsletter for members
        • E-newsletter for units of government participating in IMRF
        • Publications, including the annual financial report, popular annual financial report, and budget document
        • Secure website communication for members and employers
        • Employee e-newsletter
        • Employee mass communications through Microsoft Teams
        • Employee mass communications that support Human Resources in sharing information about policies, benefits, compensation, training, change management, and other initiatives.
        • Photography, including photography at special events and business portraits.
        • Design and dissemination of digital surveys

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
      This position is directly responsible for the supervision of four team members.

      EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE

      • Bachelor’s Degree (BS or BA) required
      • Five years of work experience in communications required.
      • Experience utilizing content management systems and Adobe Creative Suite required.
      • One year of experience leading a functional area preferred.
      • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
      • Strong graphic design sense.
      • Skilled at working in a highly collaborative communications team.
      • Skilled at partnering with members of the business side on cross-functional projects.
      • Skilled at providing constructive criticism on communications projects.
      • Strong leadership and team building skills, especially the ability to listen and make others feel heard, to communicate clearly, to maintain employee engagement, and to project positivity and confidence when faced with challenges.
      • Skilled at solving problems to bring projects to completion.
      • Familiarity with Plain Language principles preferred.
