- Lead plumbing operations across multiple academic, administrative, and residential buildings.
- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems and fixtures in compliance with the Massachusetts Plumbing Code and college standards.
- Conduct advanced diagnostics on complex plumbing systems, including backflow prevention devices, hydronic systems, and lab/technical piping systems.
- Test and certify backflow prevention devices per Massachusetts DEP regulations.
- Provide guidance and oversight to junior trades staff and contractors; act as on-site subject matter expert.
- Coordinate with facilities leadership to plan and execute plumbing-related capital improvements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, construction documents, specifications, and building codes.
- Respond to emergency plumbing issues during and outside of regular hours.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, inspections, preventive maintenance, and code compliance.
- Ensure safe use, storage, and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Collaborate with other trades (HVAC, electrical, carpentry) on multidisciplinary projects.
- Perform related duties as assigned to support department and college operations.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- A valid Massachusetts Master Plumber’s License is required.
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressively responsible plumbing experience, including two years in a lead or supervisory role, required.
- Completion of a Massachusetts-approved plumbing apprenticeship program or equivalent formal training is required
- Experience working in higher education, healthcare, or similar complex facilities preferred.
- Deep understanding of the Massachusetts Plumbing Code, OSHA, and relevant safety standards.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for routine and emergencies.
- Ability to work independently and make quick, informed decisions.
- Proficient in interpreting plans, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate across departments.
- Comfortable using maintenance software or computerized work order systems.
- Must be able to stand or walk up to 8 hours per day.
- Must lift or carry up to 35 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally.
- Must occasionally climb ladders, crouch, or work in confined spaces.
- Must be able to operate college vehicles and respond to emergencies as needed.
- Must frequently bend, squat, kneel, knee stand, lift overhead, reach overhead, push, or pull with forces up to 35 pounds.
- Must work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions.
- Must possess the ability to work at heights and maintain balance.
- Must have a full range of body motions and physical agility.
- Exposure to noise, dust, heat, chemicals, and fumes is expected.
- Work indoors and outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions.
- May occasionally work in a confined space
- Must be available for after-hours and emergency call-back work

The Master Plumber is a licensed professional responsible for leading all aspects of plumbing operations across the college’s multi-building urban campus. Operating under the Massachusetts State Plumbing Code, this role combines advanced technical expertise with leadership responsibilities to maintain, repair, and upgrade plumbing infrastructure. This includes domestic water systems, heating and chilled water lines, backflow prevention, and facility piping. The Master Plumber plays a critical role in ensuring the campus remains compliant, efficient, and safe while also responding quickly to urgent needs and mentoring junior staff.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Compensation: $38.45 - $48.00 hourly, commensurate with experience.
