      Job ID: 40299 | Location: Munich, Bavaria, Germany

      We are looking for a Student (M/F/D) to work on a Master Thesis in our Applied Catalyst Technology (ACT) Modelling team based in Munich.

      Here, you will be active in analyzing historical experimental data and developing improved kinetic models. This project will involve collaboration with Modelling and R&D experts in Clariant to evaluate and enhance our understanding of catalyst performance.

      Responsibilities

      • Assess historical data of kinetic experiments performed at laboratory-scale
      • Develop and fit first-principle kinetic rate expressions using gPROMS in a fixed-bed reactor
      • Develop a machine learning-based model using neural networks to benchmark traditional first-principle rate equations
      • Compare both modeling approaches (first-principle and machine learning)
      • Implement a simplified model of the industrial process and validate it against actual plant data
      • Identify limitations in the existing data and propose a model-based Design of Experiments (DOE) to improve kinetic understanding

      Requirements

      • You have Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Energy / Process Engineering, or a related field
      • You have initial experience in using simulation environments such as gPROMS, Python, Matlab or Aspen Plus
      • You have a good understanding of chemical reaction kinetics and catalytic processes
      • Experience with machine learning techniques and neural networks is advantageous
      • You demonstrate a strong sense of initiative and ownership, taking charge of tasks whilst also collaborating effectively within a team environment
