      Salary Range: $15.00 hr

      Position Status: Part-Time Temporary / *Not to exceed 15 hours/week

      JOB SUMMARY

      The primary role of the Math Lab Tutor is to provide content-specific assistance in the learning process to individual or group of students. This position requires the employee to have excellent communication, social skills and the ability to adapt his or her teaching methods to meet the needs of the student.

      ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

      • Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to provide them with academic tutoring to improve their understanding of content, at all levels.
      • Use various teaching strategies to tutor.
      • Monitor students while testing.
      • Provide insight into academic needs of students and suggest strategies for addressing areas of student concern (i.e., learning, classroom behavior).
      • Motivate and support students through positive feedback and reinforcement.
      • Contribute to the college-going culture through informal mentoring with students.
      • Tutors may be asked to assist with additional tasks to support various departments in the college.

      EQUIPMENT

      Work activities routinely involves work with personal computers and peripheral devices. Math lab tutoring involves moving between lab computers and circulating the room to proctor students.

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

      Knowledge or willingness to train in Statistics, Pre-Algebra, College Algebra, Precalculus, and Applied Calculus.

      JOB STANDARDS/QUALIFICATIONS

      • Bachelor’s degree or higher (STEM-related preferred).
      • Be able to communicate clearly.
      • Community college experience and knowledge of Banner software preferred.
      • Ability to work with virtual meeting platforms.
      • Experience with learning platforms such as D2L and MyLab Math preferred.
      • Experience with the flipped classroom method and/or math emporium model preferred.
      • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
      • Be able to collaborate with instructors, and students.

      JOB LOCATION

      The main campus of Cleveland State Community College is the primary workplace. Travel may be required to the McMinn Higher Education Center (MHEC) location in Athens, TN.
