      Job summary

      Opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, extremely motivated, resourceful individual with established midwifery, and leadership experience to join our Maternity team.

      Working as part of the senior midwifery team, the post holder will contribute to the future development of the maternity service through participation of development initiatives.

      Main duties of the job

      The Matron for Maternity Workforce is a key leadership position reporting to the Head of Midwifery and accountable to the Director of Midwifery to support the development of the professional midwifery agenda to achieve consistency of practice, high standards of care and innovation across integrated care pathways and services.

      The Matron for Maternity Workforce will support the Head of Midwifery in ensuring a midwifery workforce that meets the needs of now and the future and will focus on recruitment and retention and temporary staffing working closely with key stakeholders and colleagues.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      Ensure that the education, training and professional development needs of the midwifery workforce are identified and appropriate plans are in place to meet the needs as they start in the Trust.

      Ensure robust allocation of preceptorship midwives equally across the sites/areas, working with the education team

      Work with Communications to coordinate midwifery materials through social media.

      Support the recruitment of NMC registered internationally trained midwives and work to identify other sources for recruitment of midwives and support staff.

      Provide reports about the midwifery workforce recruitment position working closely with recruitment and workforce colleagues to provide robust, timely information to meet the needs of all stakeholders.

      Provide workforce data as requested and interpret workforce reports.

      Work with key stakeholders to look at shift patterns, flexible working and other innovative ideas to increase attraction of staff and improve retention and evaluate outcomes and staff experience.

      Provide support to the Maternity Matrons and ward managers to ensure effective rostering of permanent staff and temporary staffing cover working closely with the on-site team.

      To understand requirements for clinical staffing levels and triangulate with vacancy data to identify recruitment and retention hotspots.

      Contribute to the development of nursing and midwifery strategies and polices in conjunction with senior midwives, nurses, workforce and Organisational Development colleagues.

      Ensure that staff development enables career progression and succession planning.

      Contribute to the implementation and triangulate the information of key performance indicators for Annual NHS Staff Survey.

      Develop a culture that is flexible and positive to change, where staff feel valued and where opportunities are actively created for individuals, to maximise potential and excel.

      Encourage and promote an evidence-based culture in staff through the use of procedures and protocols of care within an inter-disciplinary approach.
