      Job Title: Meat Cutter

      Department: Meat

      Reports To: Meat Manager

      FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

      Summary

      Processes all cuts of beef, lamb, and pork products and is responsible for ordering and maintaining production schedules. Provides exceptional customer service and contributes to a positive and collaborative team environment.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      General Requirements:

      • Engages the customer in a friendly manner, shares product information, and assists in locating products throughout the store.
      • Demonstrates ability to manage own time and models a flexible work style.

      • Conserves company resources. Works in a manner consistent with the company mission, vision, values, and sustainability program.
      • Adheres to work and food safety policies set forth by the company and all local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
      • Observe all company rules and policies.

      Position Responsibilities:

      • Wraps, weighs and prices meat and seafood products according to department policy.
      • Ensures all meat and seafood items are cut, trimmed, and processed by company standards.
      • Orders meat products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs.
      • Stock, rotate, and face cases.
      • Maintains awareness of industry trends, current ads, promotions, holidays, and events.
      • Assesses and adjusts production needs based on sales.
      • Guides the work of backup meat cutters.
      • Partners with the department management team to maintain excellent department conditions.
      • Receives and unloads merchandise; checks quality, and counts for accuracy and condition.
      • Assists customers with product selection.
      • Demonstrates familiarity with products in the department.
      • Adheres to department compliance with company organic standards.
      • Completes customer special orders thoroughly.
      • Maintains accurate pricing and signage.
      • Follows company procedures for processing invoices, transfers, and credits.
      • Handles damaged and spoiled products according to company policy.
      • Maintains the organization, rotation, and cleanliness of back stock areas.
      • May participate in other activities, such as inventories, scheduling, and performance reviews.
      • Notifies the department manager or Manager on Duty of any situations relating to customer service, safety, productivity, security, or any other situation that may hurt the store.
      • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

      Customer Service Skills

      Engages the customer in a friendly manner, shares product information, and assists in locating products throughout the store.

      Education and/or Experience

      • Previous customer service, food service, retail, or grocery experience preferred.
      • Knowledge of retail Meat and Seafood departments is preferred.
      • Prior meat cutting/fabrication experience is required.

      Language Skills

      Basic ability to read and interpret documents required.

      Mathematical Skills

      Basic math and computation skills are required.

      Reasoning Ability

      Skills to read, understand, and follow through on verbal and written instructions.

      Knowledge of English (Preferred)

      This is a customer service-driven position. Should have the ability to speak, read, and understand English.

      Physical Demands

      This position works at a Heavy level. Required frequently and up to continuously to be on feet with a mix of standing and walking throughout the shift.

      This position may require the use of the following tools and equipment: box knife, baler, scanner, hand truck, POS, conveyer belt, industrial kitchen equipment, etc.

      Work occurs in a grocery store environment which includes surfaces that can be wet and slippery, moderate noise levels, and temperature extremes in controlled environments.
