At Lineage, helping to feed the world is more than a job – it’s a purpose we live every day. Lineage is the world’s largest and most innovative provider of temperature-controlled logistics solutions.

We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team located at our Peterborough depot.

Our Peterborough site is one of the nation’s most advanced cold storage facilities. Opened in 2018 and significantly expanded in 2022, the site now features:

      • 70,900+ pallet positions across three phases

      • 7 automated cranes, 6 inbound lanes, and 8 double dispatch lanes

      • Automated vehicle offload and full-site automation supporting up to 4,500 pallet movements per day

      • A dedicated in-house transport fleet with 100 trailers and 150 tractor units

Standing 13 stories tall and operating 24/7, the facility is built for high-volume, full-pallet operations. It also leads the way in sustainability, with advanced energy-efficient systems aligned with our global environmental commitments.

As we prepare for our next phase of expansion, we’re investing in people and technology to build a world-class Engineering Team. That’s where you come in.

As we continue to expand, we are actively investing in people and technology to build a world-class Engineering Team across Lineage EU.

      The role

We are currently seeking a Mechanically Skilled Engineer to join our growing engineering team at our state-of-the-art Peterborough site. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a background in mechanical or electrical maintenance who is eager to develop in a dynamic, high-tech environment.

We’re looking for a proactive and skilled engineer with a mechanical or multi-skilled background to join our high-performing team. You’ll support the maintenance of cutting-edge automation and refrigeration systems that power one of the UK’s top cold chain operations.

      Shift: 4 on 4 off Nights (18:00–06:00)

      Responsibilities

      • Diagnose and Resolve Equipment Failures: Quickly respond to faults across mechanical, electrical, and automated systems—including cranes, conveyors, refrigeration, and plant utilities—identifying root causes and implementing sustainable fixes.

      • Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Carry out scheduled maintenance tasks in line with PPM programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

      • Monitor and Maintain Coldstore Systems: Regularly inspect and ensure the Coldstore plant is operating within temperature thresholds. Support the refrigeration servicing schedules and report any deviations or concerns to leadership promptly.

      • Support Automation and Yard Operations: Act as a first point of contact for automation or yard system issues. Provide rapid support to restore operations and liaise with controls/automation engineers where necessary.

      • Documentation and Reporting: Accurately complete maintenance logs, job sheets, and WMS entries to ensure full traceability and compliance with regulatory standards and internal procedures.

      • Maintain Tools and Workspaces: Ensure all maintenance tools are kept in good working condition, compliant with PAT requirements, and that the workshop remains clean, safe, and organized.

      • Parts and Stock Management: Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to maintain stock levels of critical spare parts and consumables, helping to avoid delays in reactive or planned maintenance.

      • Safety and Compliance: Adhere strictly to company health and safety protocols, food safety standards (including HACCP), and environmental policies. Promptly report unsafe situations, near-misses, or incidents using the correct procedures.

      • Contribute to Continuous Improvement: Bring forward ideas for improving equipment reliability, maintenance practices, and operational efficiency. Support project work and site upgrades as needed.

      Who we’re looking for

      • A recognised qualification in Mechanical Engineering. Electrical Engineering beneficial but not essential (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, ONC/HNC or equivalent).

      • Proven hands-on experience in a maintenance role, ideally within a fast-paced automated or logistics environment.

      • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills across mechanical and electrical systems.

      • Familiarity with food safety standards, health & safety legislation, and maintenance best practices.

      • Effective communicator in English with a proactive and adaptable approach.

      • Willing to work rotating shifts within a 24/7 operational schedule.

      What’s in it for You?

      • Competitive pay with clear progression opportunities

      • Access to structured training and development

      • A collaborative, safety-first work culture

      • Free on-site parking

      • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme for free, confidential support

      • Shared rest areas and team recognition schemes
