      Vortex Optics is looking for a talented individual to join our New Product Development team who will continue to help us achieve that promise. In this role, you will contribute to making awesome new products through the design and prototyping of mechanical components and systems while also maintaining and improving existing products. You will be working alongside other departments so you should have great communication, organization, troubleshooting and research skills, along with a passion for learning and improving.


      What You’ll Be Doing

      • Assist in the assembly and troubleshooting of prototypes of designed products.
      • Maintain in-house product design authority after product launch
      • Document: test data, manufacturing feedback and new design implementations
      • Participate in testing new product prototypes to determine requirement compliance
      • Create and maintain assembly fixturing and tooling
      • Troubleshoot and improve product designs for both performance and manufacturability
      • Work with Quality Team to monitor product performance / returns
      • Conduct and maintain the Engineering Change Process
      • Work with Test and Evaluation to perform in-house product lifecycle testing
      • Design parts and assemblies for sports optics products.
      • Create prints for parts and assemblies for sports optics products, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
      • Collaborate with teammates companywide to develop the total product system.
      • Aids Project Manager in writing new product requirements based on market studies and customer feedback.
      • Understand customer product requirements and develop mechanical systems to meet those requirements.
      • Collaborate with factory partners on day-to-day design tasks.
      • Support patent development on new products and features by aiding the writing of invention disclosures and working with lawyers, and in-house Legal Division Manager to create patents.
      • Evaluating competitor products through reverse engineering, study, lab testing and field testing.
      • Participate in execution and analysis of facts and trends of the product categories, competitive product entries and consumer usage and attitudes with internal and external resources; recommends action to capitalize on profit opportunities or correct problem areas.
      • May need to travel internationally 3-6 weeks per year. Will vary depending on annual project goals.
      • Domestic travel 1-3 weeks per year.
      • Other duties as assigned.

      Requirements

      • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar degree
      • Excellent organizational, documentation and presentation skills
      • Utilization of 3D Design software to generate mechanical design documentation


      Preferred Experience and Skills

      • Prior engineering experience, or experience with a technical internship or co-op
      • Solidworks 3D
