- Mechanical engineering projects including obtaining customer specifications and designing the mechanical components of the machinery. This involves working closely with the Sales Department, application of mechanical engineering knowledge of machinery principles and materials, manufacturing methods and processes to ensure designs are safe, functional, practical, economical and satisfying customer operating requirements.
- Conducting calculations derived from typical mechanical engineering fundamentals including machinery design theory, power transmission, basic controls theory, etc. Presenting calculations and design in design review format to internal team as well as customers.
- Designing of machined and fabricated parts which includes shafts, bearings & housings, drive components, mounting plates, spacers, structural frame weldments, sheet metal components, etc. Generating 3D models and drawings in CAD software (Solidworks/AutoCad) and completing Bill of Materials in ERP system (Syteline) including details required to complete manufacturing effort for proper handoff to planning/purchasing.
- Analyzing and prioritizing projects based on internal company needs and customer schedules, or as defined by the Engineering Manager.
- Interfacing with Manufacturing to ensure machinery designs are properly fabricated, machined, and assembled which may include revising of mechanical design specifications/drawings. Interfacing with Assembly to support mechanical completion and testing of equipment. Interfacing with all other departments e.g. sales/marketing, aftermarket, field services, purchasing, etc., to coordinate work/projects to ensure customer on-time delivery and quality.
- Acting as a technical resource for customers and internal service technicians to address and resolve inquiries and problems.
- Traveling to customer sites (10%).
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- 3+ years’ experience in mechanical design and/or application engineering (plastics or packaging industry a plus)
- Strong fundamental understanding of machine design, power transmission, pneumatics, materials selection, and fabrication practices.
- Ability to detail mechanical drawings including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and sensors commonly used in packaging machinery design.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills which includes presentation skills.
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office – Word/Excel/PowerPoint, AutoCad, Solidworks, ERP Systems)
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to successfully handle a multi-tasked role.

The Mechanical Engineer under general direction, develops and prepares mechanical designs for plastic products and packaging machinery where broad use of independent judgement and highly technical skills are required.
