Mechanical Engineer III
Location: High Point, NC
Duration: 12 months with possible extension/possible contract to hire
Description:
Summary:
Investigate, develop, validate and implement design solutions for school bus systems, including the bus body structure and trim components.
A typical mechanical engineer has the ability to make engineering drawings, and read and interpret blueprints.
Job Responsibilities:
Use Creo to develop 3D models, component and installation drawings, and bills of materials.
Collaborate with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, Fabrication and other departments to implement manufacturable design solutions that support our current product.
Interface with Test & Compliance personnel to prototype new systems, perform development testing and apply test results to new designs.
Skills:
Verbal and written communication skills.
Analytical and problem solving ability.
Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings and common computations.
3D modeling experience required.
Product design experience preferred.
Candidate Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of degree required
Any experience in engineering work would be considered relevant (possibly manufacturing)
2-4 years experience required at minimum Or exp 3D modeling experience required is required
BEST candidate versus an AVERAGE candidate:
Product design experience preferred.
CREO Exp would be a significant benefit
Team center exp

Typical Day in the Role:
Added a continuous cost improvement team to work on cost improvements
The contract engineer will be performing similar responsibilities as one of the direct design engineers
Design engineering for the body of school buses
Mechanical systems on the bus body
CAD modeling, documentation for designs, validation work, working with production to ensure the bus is manufacturable and easy to assemble
10% of their typical day will be in team meetings discussing specific projects for direction
Contract engineer gets to spend a lot more time designing
45% of their time is in production
45% of their time is at the computer doing modeling

Contractor will report to a direct team leader and will meet with them weekly
