Developing and designing components and systems for use in R&D applications.

Following design into manufacturing process and ensuring manufacture is completed to specifications.

Using CAD, specifically Autodesk Inventor and/or Solidworks; create and maintain drawings and other documentation; creating and overseeing quality assurance procedures.

Material selection, FEA, and shape and weight optimisation.

Producing engineering drawings in accordance with AS1100

Supporting a culture of continuous improvement.

A tertiary degree in Mechanical or mechatronics Engineering or equivalent area.

Strong people and communication skills to ensure on-time delivery of projects.

Demonstrated experience using metrology for Quality Assurance of manufactured components.

CAD: at least two years with Autodesk Inventor and/or Solidworks for design and drawings.

At least one year’s experience in mechanical design for manufacture of prototypes or low volume production.

Experience working in a research facility is desirable.

The opportunity
If you have qualifications and experience in mechanical or mechatronics engineering and eager for an opportunity to participate in interesting and meaningful work, this could be a great role for you.
In this role, you will provide support for scientific research in a diverse range of laboratory and field situations across a range of different research projects. This support consists of the application of accepted technical practices and the development of new practices. The work is usually carried out as a member of a centralised service.
You will report into CBIS Engineering Services, a centralised engineering group whose purpose is to streamline CSIRO’s research process by providing services and knowledge that reduce project setup time, meet required standards, and continue the technical area of projects through engineering design and manufacture. The group focuses on the following areas: engineering, design, mechanical fabrication, electrical, electronics, documentation, robotics, automation, software, controls, machine and electrical safety, maintenance, repair, and project management.
Your duties will include:
Location: CSIRO Clayton Site.
Salary: AU $70,874 - $90,202 per annum (pro-rata for part-time) plus, up to 15.4% superannuation
