Mechanical Engineer – Space-Based Energy Systems

We're building something audacious: a system that redirects sunlight from space back to Earth to extend solar energy availability, light critical infrastructure, and unlock new possibilities in space-based power. Our technology involves orbiting reflectors, precision spacecraft, and ultra-efficient ground integration — and it's already backed by top-tier investors and launched into early test phases.

We're a small, driven team where you'll move fast, own your work end-to-end, and see your impact in orbit. If you're excited by scrappy innovation, first-principles problem-solving, and shipping hardware that literally changes the world — we want to hear from you.

      About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll design, prototype, and flight-validate spacecraft subcomponents on aggressive timelines. You'll be deeply hands-on — building, testing, iterating — and expected to deliver working systems that balance elegant design with pragmatic execution.

You'll work on everything from reflector deployment systems to structural components and integration with optical and thermal subsystems.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Design and deliver critical, flight-ready spacecraft components
      • Own the full lifecycle: from concept through qualification to on-orbit operations
      • Ensure reliability through correlation of simulation, testing, and analysis
      • Collaborate closely across electrical, software, and mission teams
      • Solve complex mechanical and thermal challenges in the space environment

You Might Be a Fit If You...

      • Have taken spacecraft components from napkin sketch to space
      • Are fluent in CAD and can get from design to machine shop with minimal friction
      • Know how to build robust bolted joints — and can teach others
      • Understand manufacturing tolerances without constantly asking
      • Thrive in high-ownership, fast-paced, ambiguity-rich environments
      • Collaborate effectively across disciplines — even (especially) when systems are tightly interdependent

Even if you don't check every box, we still want to hear from you. We're building a team of exceptional people — and we know exceptional doesn't always look one way.

      Compensation & Benefits

We offer a generous package because your talent and time are the foundation of our success:

      • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision (base plan)
      • HSA, FSA, 401(k), and commuter benefits
      • Unlimited PTO (with a 2-week minimum encouraged annually)
      • Daily team lunches provided
      • A chance to build something groundbreaking — and see it fly

      We're an Equal Opportunity Employer
