Overview
The Snap-on Power Tools Engineering team is seeking a Mechanical Engineering college student for a summer internship at our corporate headquarters in Kenosha, Wisconsin. This is a great opportunity to support innovative cordless and pneumatic power tools designs that meet the high expectations of Snap-on customers in critical industries.
Responsibilities
• Work with product development teams to engineer power tool components and assemblies to meet performance, functionality, safety, and durability targets using Creo, ANSYS, and ADAMS to model and simulate your designs.• Assemble and modify prototype tools using hand/power tools and soldering equipment.• Specify and perform durability and performance testing on prototype, production, and competitive products and document results and conclusions.• Develop new / improved test fixtures to evaluate the function, performance and durability of power tools.• Perform root cause failure analysis to evaluate failed products. Develop, prototype, and test alternative designs to improve products.• Visit end users to capture feedback on current and prototype tools to improve designs.• Effectively document and communicate design details, project process, and project results.
Qualifications
• Foundational knowledge of materials (metals, plastics, and processing), statics, mechanics of materials, mechanisms, testing, and instrumentation.• Substantial progress toward a Mechanical Engineering Degree (BSME) at an ABET accredited program.• Familiar with 3D CAD, Creo experience is a plus.• Expertise with manufacturing processes including CNC machining, 3D printing, and injection molding.• Ability to document work done using MS Office programs.• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with high attention to detail.• Ability to work effectively with little direction and/or few guidelines.• High mechanical aptitude with a desire to learn.• Ability to work full-time during summer.
